Stop of a San Luis Obispo for one night while travelling from San Francisco to LA by train. This place is well located for the traveller who does not have a car. It is only a very short walk to main shopping area and eating places.
Staff were friendly and very helpful. When my cellphone failed after arriving staff were very helpful in organising an early morning taxi for the station at 7.00am. Because we were missing the breakfast that was included in the cost, staff provided a bag of fruit for the morning.
This Inn is what I would call Victorian decorated, very clean, great bed.
There is only one draw back for the traveller with a large heavy suitcase and that is stairs. Most of the rooms are upstairs.
When in town for dinner Thursday night we found a very large farmers market in progress. I understand this market is held every Thursday.
Would recommend this accommodation.
For the traveller who does not have a car, load the Uber app onto your cellphone, from what I saw most of the Taxis in San Luis Obispo are Uber. We used my iPhone to get one from the Station, cost just under Six dollars.

Pet/dog friendly? Not really. Website mentions dogs OK in select rooms. When we arrived with our 13 lb. non-shedding dog we learned that there is only one room that pets are allowed in. Not exactly what we'd call dog friendly. We decided to not stay and continue on our journey. With that said, person at the Inn was very friendly, accommodating and understanding/supportive of our decision to not stay.

We arrived at the Inn after the innkeepers had left for the night, this was not a problem though as we had been given excellent instructions as to how to access the house and our room. Due to an Amtrak breakdown it was 1am when we arrived, the plate with delicious cakes on the table in the room, was very gratefully received. We stayed for 3 nights and breakfast each day was something different, it was wonderful. The room we had was on the 1st floor, the inn is accessed by a flight of stairs from street level. Our room was spacious and beautifully presented. As it was next to the entrance, lounge and breakfast area there was a little noise from the area at breakfast time. This would not put us off from staying there again.
The location was perfect for strolling around the town and investigating the area. Highway 1 was easily reached and we went to see the Elehpant seals (in the pouring rain) and Hirst Castle, which was closed due to the rain, they did refund our pre bought tickets.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful.

This past weekend (February, 2017) 17 of us, family and friends, descended on the Garden Street Inn (with much advance notice) to celebrate the 70th birthday of my husband. The Garden Street Inn handled the friendly onslaught with calm and aplomb. The suites are particularly roomy, the building is solid as a rock and VERY quiet at night and the breakfasts we were served were outstanding. I'm sure I can speak for our entire group and state that we all enjoyed a wonderful and comfortable weekend here. We would gladly come back.

Room tip: For extra comfort pick a suite.

In the category of B&B, this is a great choice. 17 of us (family and friends, all adults), took over most of the rooms in the Garden Street Inn for the Presidents' Day weekend. Since a number of the rooms are suites, with their own sitting area, we had lots of options for gathering together. We could gather in the main living room/lobby, or in one or more of the suites. Paul, the chef, produces outstanding breakfasts (including adjustments for gluten or dairy intolerance), and the entire staff was great. This is well-located in downtown SLO, within walking distance to various stores, restaurants, and the old SLO Mission. Also, a good base from which to head out wine tasting in the nearby Edna Valley. Enjoy!

Room tip: The construction and insulation are solid. Little noise, despite people in the dining room for breakfast, talking.
