Description: The first restaurant was opened in 1983 in San Diego by Ralph Rubio and his father, Ray, who started the fish taco phenomenon that spread across the nation. In addition to sustainable seafood, Rubio’s offers chargrilled chicken and steak, fresh made guacamole and salsas and sauces that are prepared daily.

I don't live in California but I read about Rubios in an online article.
It claimed that it had potential to surpass Chipotle.
That's a very tall claim. Not that there is not better Mexican food than Chipotle
but very few restaurants total can match them in sales- bottom line.
When we visited California, we stopped by and I just ordered something simple.
When I tasted the street tacos, I was very impressed. They have a variety of offerings and you should check them out. Will it surpass Chipotle?
I don't think so but it's not because of the taste of the food. Believe that!

Interesting fast Mexican food. My lunch group eats here frequently. Good choices of chicken, fish, and steak tacos and burritos. Everything from a single small taco to a plate with beans and chips.
Good children's menu. Fountain products are Coke, and brewed iced tea and mango flavored iced tea are also available. Plentiful parking, as this Rubio's is located in El Paseo Shopping Center. Service is quick, efficient, and friendly. Bathroom is always clean. Tables and chairs can be easily moved to provide seating for groups of 8-10.

7pm, parking lot jammed full, with numerous black and white cars in attendence, customer line out the door -black Friday sale at Toys R Us? No, it's Rubio's half price original fish taco sale, Tuesdays only!

You heard the story of the guy who ate only at Subways for 3 years, and lost 250 pounds? Well my wife and I ate Rubios' fish tacos every Tuesday evening for 1 year, and gained 5 pounds! I'm not expecting any phone calls from Rubios' marketing any time soon!

I only eat the fish tacos at Rubios -nothing else, and have never tried anything else. And judging from the lukewarm reviews at Rubios, you do not want to try anything else! And always with corn and not flour tortilla -less fattening, got to lose a few pounds anyway that I can!

The fish tacos are baked breaded, with plenty of white fish inside, covered with the secret white sauce with a bit of a kick, and raw cabbage. I load up on the condiments of spicy sauce, jalepenos, and sliced onions.

15 minutes of waiting, and I doggy bag it home, where I add more cabbage, and cook it with the juices from the accompanying sliced limes. There was a lime shortage in Mexico a few months ago, and they served sliced lemons, and some Yelpers still think they serve lemons!

Place is full of people of all sorts -college students, families with kids, lone adults in business suits, and even a table of cops! And they are not here to check on a disturbance! You know the place has got to be good in both taste and behavior, when the cops choose here to eat among the hundreds of restaurants, and not to give someone a free ride in the back seat to the station!

Great service! People there are attentive and very nice.
Food is a good deal for the reasonable pricing.
Even though the menu published the 'plate' deal with double entree, one can order a single entree 'plate'. The 'plate' comes with 2 sides.
Only thing I hope they'll have someday soon, is to offer cooked veggies for a side in addition to the chips, rice, and beans.
