Friends recommended this place and now we know why. Amazingly, it feels like a new restaurant "concept." Cheese trays come from the front and are artfully arranged, beautifully presented and thoughtfully explained. Wine list is interesting and varied. Food is freshly prepared and excellent. Mid-way through our meal the live music began and it too was superb. We liked this place so much we came back the next morning for breakfast. (Only complaint: you can't get "real" breakfast food (e.g., eggs, etc.) until 8 a.m. -- but they were worth waiting for. (I loved the avocado toast with a fried egg on top. YUM.) Loved the servers...and the owner even stopped by at breakfast to make sure we were happy. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Ordered several dishes and drinks from the happy hour menu as well as a regular entree. Enjoyed them all, but can't say we were blown away by any except the Sidewinder Fries. Yum! Service was friendly and, even though it was busy, we easily found seats at a bar. All in all lovely place.

We'd been wanting to try The Cellar for some time and finally went last weekend. We were really disappointed. The Caesar Salad was the worst I've ever had. The dressing was bland and tasteless and the salad was covered with finely shaved egg??? It was not a Caesar Salad. We also had a type of fried fritter that was really soggy. I will say that the fried potatoes were pretty good, but the overall experience was really poor.

Staff is cheerful, friendly, helpful, polite, prompt, and professional. The atmosphere inside is warm and cozy albeit a little dark furthest in back and much brighter outside. The menu is varied and creative. Grilled Cheese & Jam. The wine list is also varied and comes in all different price ranges so there's something for everyone. Particularly like the cheese platters with nuts. They are DELICIOUS and pair nicely with a refreshing chilled white wine in the late afternoon. Located in downtown San Clemente on the main center of town a short stroll up from the pier. Highly recommend if you enjoy a nice glass of wine with or without a nibble in an inviting setting with an outstanding staff.

When you walk by The Cellar, you will see people from all walks of life enjoying conversations in the outdoor patio. Inside, you will find a baby grand piano alongside the bar. My recommendations:

Breakfast- start with a lavender latte and 'the works'. It is freshly baked sourdough piled high with yummy avocado, thick sliced gourmet bacon, a fried egg, with cherry tomatoes and an olive oil mix. It is amazing!

Then come back in the evening for an array of appetizers, beer, or wine! My personal favorites are the truffle popcorn, and the five cheese plate.

If you don't eat/drink dairy, try their homemade almond milk. It is delicious!

You will will never forget the lavender latte or the truffle popcorn! These are San Clemente staples.
