after chatting with the nice girl at the front desk, i booked our room (at a great price). location perfect for walking. rooms are small and clean, beds are comfortable, walls are thin, showers are hot. i felt safe here. if you enjoy simple, stay here.

I am a frequent business traveler to Sacramento and have stayed at many properties downtown and in Natomas. I decided to give the inn off Capital Park a try after our travel budget got cut and we could no longer stay at some of the pricier hotels downtown.

The location off the inn can’t be beat- you are a less than a 10 minute walk to the capital and restaurants, bars, and the performing arts centre and convention center. There is a small parking garage and the hotel is actually built atop it, with rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor. All rooms face an interior atrium with a seating and breakfast area.

The beds were very comfortable and the rooms, while slightly smaller than what I’m used to, were clean, and had everything you’d expect- free internet, TV, coffee maker, microwave, hair dryer, in room AC/heat, heat lamp in the bathroom. The hotel is quiet, especially considering its downtown location. I did put in earplugs though as a precaution, since my room was right across from the breakfast area.

The breakfast offers coffee, tea and cold items like cereal and pastries. They brew Starbucks coffee, which is a pleasant change from dishwater like coffee at other hotels.

My stay was relaxing, and I’d stay here again.

We selected this hotel for it's location and the reviews it received on Trip Advisor. we were not disappointed. We stayed for two nights. Our room (room 205) was small but adequate. There was free internet access on a pc in reception which was really useful for us. There was plenty of parking space underneath the hotel which is in a very good position, handy for downtown and mid town.

The complimentary breakfast was fine.

The only downside was a very noisy bar across the road on the Saturday night (it seemed to be open until the early hours) so ask for a room away from the main road if you can..

We would stay here again if we were in the area as it was handy for most places.

This small hotel has a great location: easy walking distance to the capitol building, and to a number of restaurants.

The price is right, because the rooms are definitely in need of modernization, yet you're within walking distance of everything.

The hotel does have a first-class coffee machine in the atrium.

Useful for a one-night stay while in town on business, but definitely not a vacation destination.

As we regularly travel with a small do on business (a 20lb Boston Terrier), we were happy to see that this hotel was listed by Orbitz as taking dogs. We booked a queen suite for our four day stay. Upon registering at the "flophouse style" lobby, we were informed that "Oh we don't take dogs. We've been meaning to let the sites know that for awhile. After gazing at the lobby we were more than happy to find another accommodation, but the manager insisted that they would take the dog and there would be no problem. Several days later we received a call from the desk clerk who in a decidedly nasty tone informed us that we were violating hotel policy. As we were about to check out anyway we thought this was odd. She continued to talk in a tone that indicated we were trying to sneak the dog into the hotel. We became quite angry and left even sooner.

As to the hotel itself, I must say that the dog was cleaner and more presentable than the "Inn." Our Queen Suite was just a standard hotel room that had been divided with a wall into two smaller rooms. For $160 per night it was a poor value. The room had no windows, except small ones facing the indoor "atrium." The suite had a small microwave but not refrigerator. There was a sort of breakfast offered in the mornings. The housekeepers did try to keep the room clean but the hotel itself had a strange smell that decidedly detracted from whatever ambiance it might have possessed. Location is very good for those with business in the capitol. Parking is free and there seems to be sufficient space in the garage.

Overall I would only recommend this hotel to someone who is staying a night, receives an incredible rate and absolutely must be near certain state buildings.

  • Liked — Location to the capitol
  • Disliked — Staff, room, odd smell, no view at all, no way to get drinks and snacks
