This railroad museum has the reputation of being perhaps the finest in the nation. It has a large collection of railroad locomotives and rolling stock, passenger equipment, and associated paraphernalia. The new building showing off this collection is impressive, the model railroad collection interesting for young and old, and the dining car china collection extensive. Most, but not all, of the displays are from railroads operating in California. The bookstore has a large collection of books and souvenirs. In short, a pleasant stroll through the nation's railroad past for $9 per adult. The very realistic, though simulated, train movement on the Pullman car exhibit certainly brought back memories of riding a passenger train and could give someone who had never been on a train the feel of the real thing.
