“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2012

I stay at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Redding CA once a month for 1 to 3 nights and don't even consider staying any other place. The property is very clean, well maintained, the rooms extremely comfortable, and the location very convenient without being on a busy street. The managers and others at the front desk, and all personnel have always been kind, courteous, helpful, and nice to chat with. I have traveled extensively in the US and internationally and I rate this hotel in the highest range, and especially so in this price bracket.

Room Tip: They have great rooms with large Jacuzzis.

My husband has cancer, we spent 7 weeks here at the Baymont while he underwent chemo and radiation treatments. We checked several hotels before making this reservation and they were all way out of our price range. I'd stayed at another hotel in town when he had is surgery, it was far from nice and three times the price of Baymont. The staff is truly delightful, always attentive and cheerful, never over-bearing or rude. Our room was cleaned daily and always fresh and nice - can't image what room Rockstrongo had - certainly not the one we had!! This facility is fresh and clean throughout This hotel is to be commended for offering a very fair and reasonable rate to persons having to spend time in Redding for medical treatments. Redding is the hub - the medical community for most of us in Northern CA. We would have to have driven 180 miles everyday for 7 weeks had it not been for this gracious hotel. For those who enjoy the pool - I doubt you'll find a nicer one in Redding or in most towns for that matter. Take a book and enjoy the morning sun (indoors) next to the pool and relax after enjoying a great breakfast including waffles!! Other features: good location; microwave and fridge; internet in the lobby; nicely kept grounds; very comfortable lobby; warm choc chip cookies to help you sleep! Enjoy your stay, we did and we had some pretty serious circumstances.

Avoid this hotel at all costs, our bathroom was infested with black mold, the night manager was unusually unsympathetic and the walls are paper thin.

I would rate this hotel as a 3.5 star. We stayed there five nights and it was reasonably priced. The room was clean, bed was comfy and it had a microwave, fridge, and great air conditioning.Shower was great too! It was spacious and the maid was very nice and accomodating. It was in a nice, safe area accessible near lots of shopping and restaurants. Noise level in the area was low even though it is a predominately business area. Although the elevator was slow and the internet connection wasn't the best...I would stay there again when returning to Redding. You get a great deal for the money you spend.

The following breakthroughs affected the way we eat breakfast in America:
1700s: The Dutch created olieobollen ("oil balls") what we now call doughnuts with deep-fried dollops of dough which later became ring-shaped to speed production time and solve the soggy-middle problem
1902: Dr. John H. Kellogg and his brother, Will, baked up the first batch of corn flakes in a sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan.
1940s: During WWII the U.S. Government charged the Florida Citrus Commission with finding a way to ship Vitamin C-packed orange juice to the troops overseas to prevent scurvy and orange juice concentrate was literally created in a vacuum.
1960: Dr. Suess advocates trying green eggs and ham (in a box/ with a fox/ in a house/ with a mouse) and it becomes the fourth-biggest selling children's title of all time.
1961: In the film Breakfast with Tiffany's Audrey Hepburn gets her take-out coffee and Danish to go and makes brown-bagging breakfast look elegant.
1970s: The Regency Hotel chain in NYC invents the power breakfast.
1970s: Granola catches on and travels well.

To the above list I would add the humble lobby waffle. Every time I stay in a motel I look for them in the breakfast room or lobby. You get a paper cup of pre-mixed liquid waffle mix and a heated griddle you flip after filling and 2 minutes and 30 seconds later your very own waffle. Something you made without any hassle which has not been heating under a lamp while you were sleeping. You can then add hot syrup, peanut butter, sliced fruit (usually bananas or strawberries) or if you know the motel has lobby waffles, get creative and bring add-ons to make the Elvis (peanut butter/sliced bananas/syrup), the Chocolate Chip (throw 20-25 chocolate chips in with the batter) or the Devil's Snickerdoodle (throw in the chips, slather with peanut butter and syrup and then add more chocolate chips on top when you pull your waffle.)
Lobby waffles instantly make you feel you have some control over your breakfast and leave you powered up for the day. Plus, you can make as many as you want.

The reason why this review is dedicated to the humble lobby waffle should be obvious:
This is not a great motel: the beds are fairly flat, but uncomfortably so; one of our Queen beds was filled with dog hair and sand (?); the tvs are standard-issue motel sets with no extras and poor reception; towels are scratchy and the walls pretty darn thin. When you complain about the pet hair/sandy sheets at the front desk the night manager said they would make a note, but never asked which room we were in. Needless to say, we didn't have time to check out this motel on Trip Advisor and were just desperate for a room around midnight on a Friday on the way up to Oregon and all the other Redding motels and hotels were completely full.

The cost? $100? Would we recommend it to you, Dear Reader? Absolutely not.

However, the reason this establishment didn't get throw to the bottom of the ratings would be the availability of lobby waffles which redeemed the horrible night we had the next morning. Better than a session on a psychotherapist's couch.

One more item you should be aware of: This motel is part of the Ameri-Host Inn & Suites chain, but you only learn that when you see the charge on your credit card statement. Perhaps the larger chain doesn't want you to know this is one of their lesser roadside motels.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a room that is not only Non-Smoking but non-pet friendly: somebody let the puppies...
