We stayed in an oceanfront penthouse suite, which is very large and beautifully appointed.
The suite had two good-sized bedrooms, two large bathrooms, a laundry room, a full kitchen and living room and a balcony patio. The closet in the master bedroom was large enough to be a bedroom itself.
The kitchen appliances were topnotch (Subzero fridge and Wolf stove) though we opted to eat out rather than stay in and cook.
The service was great and included complementary valet parking. The staff of the hotel left two welcome notes in our suite (including one that was handwritten) along with a bottle of wine.
The landscaping is lovely and the resort has a nice pool and some cozy fire pits.
Breakfast in the attached restaurant was excellent.
We booked the room through a preferred partner and that gave us a great rate for the penthouse, late checkout complementary breakfast for 2 including mimosas and gratuity and a $75 resort credit, which I thought was a great deal.
My only issues are small and didn't really detract much from the experience, but I will mention them in case they are useful for others: My inlaws are from a very warm climate and found the foggy California coast to be quite chilly in September and they were cold in the suite.

I assumed the suite was just too large to heat up efficiently but noticed it was heating up in the morning, so perhaps it was fixed. I personally found the temperature comfortable and I suspect that most of the year being too cold is not the issue there, so I can't imagine this being a big problem for too many people.
The other issue was that service at our breakfast the next morning was friendly but a bit haphazard. It took a very long time to order and get our food even though the restaurant was quite empty, we never did get the mimosas we ordered (but since the breakfast was comped I didn't want to demand my free mimosas) and the server forgot that we had some vouchers for breakfast and gave me a bill for the full amount (quickly corrected after I pointed it out.)
The restaurant is beautiful though and the food was great, so I chalk it up to things that happen when its a slow morning.
I would highly recommend Dolphin Bay Resort and I'd hope to stay there again the next time we are down in the Pismo Beach area.More
