“The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

THE GOOD: BEAUTIFUL HOTEL AND PROPERTY - The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. We had rooms on the first floor on the bay side. Everything was clean and neat in the rooms. There's even a mini-fridge. There's a nice outdoor path that runs along the river and out into the wild blue yonder that is a dream to walk or run.

THE BAD: THE LITTLE STUFF - The bed does not have a fitted sheet and housekeeping just layers all the sheets and tuck in tight, so good luck peeling back the top sheet from the bottom sheet and staying in between. There is no complimentary breakfast unless you book a room on the club level or are a club member. Breakfast in the restaurant is ridiculously expensive at $3 for a glass of milk!!! The gym is a fishbowl - large windows so the world can see you while you are working out. The treadmill belts are so worn they have tears in the middle of them. Free wireless does not apply to the outer rooms where reception is more miss than hit. The beautiful outdoor path that runs along the river is peppered with dog poo. No one picks up after there pouch here.

THE UGLY: THE STAFF - There is nothing worse than front desk staff that is less than concerned about the satisfaction of the hotel guests. "We'll see what we can do" is their dismissal phrase. Seeing as how the hotel is trying to put forth a green image, I thought that they would be happy to help me collect the old newspapers to donate to my cousins' compost. "We'll see what we can do." Apparently, nothing. They proudly display that they brew Starbucks coffee, but don't have Starbucks green attitude as they looked at me funny when I asked for the used coffee grounds. When it comes to working with the customer to meet their travel needs, they fall far short! I'm traveling with 4 seniors, 2 of whom are disabled, and asked the front desk to get 3 rooms as close together as possible. They said that they were fully booked that night but "we'll see what we can do" tomorrow when people start checking out. The next day the new staff reiterated that the hotel was fully booked and they could not accommodate our request. However, 2 hours later, as I was waiting in the lobby, I overhear one of the staff tell a walk-in guest that she just sold the last room 5 minutes ago. I thought they were "fully booked" 2 hours ago! Furthermore, one of the rooms we were in smelled of carcass and the staff still wouldn't give us a new room! Finally, after threatening to move our entire party to another hotel, we got the room changed.

Being as how I'm from the south where you can't beat the friendliness of the natives, customer service is big in my book. Even though the property is nice, I would not return on account of the poor service.

Thank you very much for taking time to post your comments on Trip Advisor. While I am glad to hear you enjoyed some aspects of your stay, I am sorry there were disappointments as well.

I will follow up regarding your experience at the front desk. This is certainly not what we strive for and I hope you will accept my apologies. Thanks again and safe travels!

In short-
1) there was no Wi Fi in room and i am not saying weak signal- NO WIRELESS at all in the whole aisle. may be okay with you but we wanted to watch a movie or play a game online so it was a big problem. every time you wanted to find a place for eating it was not fun to walk to lobby and come back

2) their restaurant served us coffee from Starbucks which is also on property. not sure if its obvious that if we want Starbucks coffee we will go there. we did not go to restaurant to get very trivial food and pay big!! service okay except we get coffee and no sugar for 15 minutes and nobody to attend so we could even ask

3) marina view, i am not sure about the hype.you don't see the wharf unless you make an effort to see it. From room you see more of highway than wharf. from pool pretty much the same.

4) pool area looks dingy. hot tub in repair. plants long back given up

5) We got this hotel thru hotwire. so we were given two single beds. we told them its our anniversary we would be okay with no view or not so renovated room but we would like to get one king/queen bed. reception told us they are booked without even looking at computer, we asked will it be possible next day- same response we are booked and we don't have a room. it was a regular weekend with no event going on around in sonoma county but still they did not have a room with one bed. what can i say!! not sure if they even wanted to find us a room.

6) housekeeping picked my swimming google pouch along with towel by mistake and i am not sure if i will get it back- lets see

i read the reviews before going and i just assumed that we will be fine this being a regular weekend, i guess i was wrong

Very nice hotel. Rooms are nicely decorated and nice size. Everything seems to work. The pool and hot tub are really nice. The view from my room, 218, looks out over the marina with many boats. Check in was easy. They encourage recycling in the room- great idea. Definitely a beautiful place to stay. You need to pay extra for the Club level.

Great Hotel!

Room rate was beyond reasonable, check in was fast and efficient, front desk staff was great at all times, free convenient parking, small marina attached to hotel, minuets from downtown Petaluma and right of the 101.

Free WIFI in the rooms, if you are staying at the extreme end of a hallway, the WIFI signal was not strong and they have Ethernet Cables in the room and ready, so if you are on a ipad and not a laptop, you may want to ask about the WIFI signal in your assigned room when checking in.

The rooms themselves are beautiful and spacious. The signature Sheraton Suite Sleeper Bed is amazingly comfortable. Very good on-site restaurant. The Club Lounge on the 4th floor has great food in the morning and at night for SPG Preferred Guest and those booking a Club Level room.

Highly recommend this property.

First off, a very, very nice room. Added to a very nice check-in experience. Wraped up with a good price, a good on-site restaurant, good parking, easy to find, solid wi-fi signal, beautiful pool/hot-tub, and a nice work-out room... I think you would really enjoy spending time here.

Room Tip: Though picturesque, facing the pool area can be a bit loud.
