Good pastry is not cheap. The chocolate almond croissant ($6) was great; the chocolate tongue ($5.30) was a little dry; the peach custard ($4.60) pastry was dense, as was the orange blossom custard pastry($5). We also bought 2 half baguettes--one bacon, one cheese ($3.40 each). They had no bread available when we walked in at 10 am; while we were there they came fresh out of the oven. They were a little too brown for my taste and a little too hard/crunchy. The staff was cheerful and helpful. Within minutes of our arrival, there was a line. You can get a cup of coffee.

We found this bakery by chance while in the neighborhood even after searching for years for high quality French breads and pastries. The first thing that drew us inside was the appearance of the baguettes as we walked by from the parking lot: the perfect appearance of caramelization and crispness (yes, you actually can see how crisp bread is if the lighting is correct). Once we were inside, there was no doubt. This was the aroma of beautiful baking - the right amount of yeast without sourness and the deep fragrance of that special flour the French call "farine grise", which has become quite common in the better bakeries in France. As we were deciding what to try, the owner was describing the complexities of operating a French bakery in the U.S. (including getting enough of the right kind of flour). We tried the baguettes and the pain au chocolat - both outstanding and can't wait to go back for more. One easy tip - you may want to call ahead to be sure they haven't run out of what you are looking for.

Helene and Christophe's croissants are the real deal - butter, pastry flake, and air. There is no equal this side of Paris. Croissants, cheese cake, bread and more pastries. I hesitate to even review this bakery because I would rather keep it to myself.

So glad we found this French bakery while visiting Palm Springs. We first tried the raisin roll and were absolutely blown away. We returned the next day to purchase croissants, a baguette and another type of bread. Everything tasted as delicious as the same items we’ve eaten in France. Most of the pastries are so large that they can easily be shared.

period...period...period. If you have ever tried to find good homemade bread in PS you know that it does not exist - until now - its at Peninsula Bakery. A true french bakery run by a real french person. The baguettes are as good as the ones you get in Paris.....its the bomb!!!!!!
