Johannes is an unassuming little restaurant ... you can't tell by the street view that the food is so good! They specialize in schnitzel, and it is amazing! They have 8 different schnitzels on the menu (veal & chicken varieties) and can do them with or without breading. If you like Austrian/German food, this is the place to go in Palm Springs!

This probably should be a special occasion restaurant (it's pricey), but you'll want to go more often than that!

We have been to Johannes several times over the last few years. The service has remained solid; in fact last night was the best - attentive but not overbearing. The Ecu (cucumber) Martini always refreshing. The food continues to shine. Whether it is the fish, schnitzel (partial to the lemon caper schnitzel), the soup specials — it is all good. Although Palm Springs has many new places that have opened, knowing what to expect and having those expectations met time and time again is the reason Johannes is one of our go to places.

Boring bread (not warm) with pesto schmear offered (very poor quality). Schnitzel (House Specialty) was decent ... but accompanied by capful of cucumber salad and uninspired fingerling potatoes. Total dish ... Mediocre.
Despite having reservations on Open Table .... we were arrogantly told the "real dining room" was totally reserved (months ahead!) ... and we would have to sit near the kitchen or outside in a very noisy/car fumes/mediocre home depot patio furniture setting.
First time ... and LAST TIME!! Wish we had left and went elsewhere .. the "Special Birthday Event" turned into a unforgettable negative misfortune.
IF you are going here anyway .... (I recommend NOT) ... but make absolutely sure they will give you a table in the dining room, and not the makeshift areas that have no ambiance, just noise and kitchen heat.
Only redeeming part was the actual female server was exceptionally nice and very professional.

My friend had a Gulasch, me a Cordon Bleau, both with Spaetzle.
Both dishes were delicious. Especially the Spaetzle - wow!
Since I'm from the original Spaetzle Land in South West Germany I claim to be able to distinguish good from so so food;-)
Service was friendly, welcoming and competent. This is no snobbish place.

If you're looking for a hint how good food is in the triangle Germany- Switzerland - Austria.. Go and visit this place.

Highly recommend this restaurant!

It is difficult to find really, really fine Bavarian food! Johannes approaches, but does not achieve that status. They try too hard. This is a smallish restaurant down town on Indian Canyon. Seating is cramped and noisy. Breads are fresh but coupled with a Parsley pesto (really?). Pumpkin ginger curry soup was to die for and likely the best item on the menu. Lamb chops were an ample portion, served medium rare, but with a barely edible sauce. The signature item, wiener schnitzel, was large, tender and buttery. Staff were more interested in up-selling than service. They just try too hard!
