My wife and I returned to Desert Sun for the week. We found the resort better than ever during the past 5-6 years.

It appears that all of the planned projects have been completed. Each improvement has been done "first class" and with careful planning to maintain harmony with the existing amenities. The new fire pit and water feature are beautiful and a wonderful place to relax and meet. The Oasis Cafe has been nicely refurbished and is more open than before. The grounds are even more healthy looking than we remember even at their best, and everything is calm and pleasantly working.

The most notable improvement for us is the general atmosphere and attitude from the staff and patrons. The drama is gone. All seems peaceful and serene. We met several new friends (from early 30's to near 80's), all of whom remarked how pleasant their time at Desert Sun was this trip. The service was excellent. Even though the Oasis Cafe was slammed, all the staff were courteous and attended to our needs and wants as soon as they could. The food quality has improved. Although the menu is limited, everything we tried was above expectations. Our only wish would be 2-3 more choices for the very health conscious (i.e., low fat and low carb). We love having the cafe on premises so that we don't have to dress and leave the resort. Hopefully, the attendance will continue to increase thereby allowing the cafe to be open for all meals. We'll be back 3-4 weeks/year.

We also met John and Elizabeth and found them to be warm, personable, and very interested that each patron enjoyed their experience at Desert Sun. They also give significant credit for the improvements that have been made to the staff that has worked so hard. It's easy to believe that Desert Sun will regain a place as one of the best naturist resorts in North America.

Our stay here was great. We were looking for a first-class resort that was clothing optional and this was the ticket. Everything was up to date. It was a "real hotel" with a "difference".
The owners happened to be on site the weekend we were there. On the Saturday night they arranged to show a movie out on the lawn near the quiet pool. It was cooler than expected, but rather than pack it in they supplied comforters for everyone. So the brave souls who faced the elements were treated to Dr. No, surround sound, delivered drinks from the bar and cushy comforters lying on chaise lounges under the stars.
So, if you are looking for a spot that is a great hotel, has a warm, friendly, feeling, and happens to be clothing optional--this is the spot.
(One qualification: the hotel has a gym with modern equipment and for a hotel this size, is outstanding. However, the treadmill kept short-curcuiting after about 5 minutes and either needs to be replaced or have the electric connection addressed. )

In our recent trip to Palm Springs, we had the opportunity to spend a day at Desert Sun Resort before heading to the airport for our trip home. This was very convenient since the resort was only 5 minutes drive from the airport.
It was well worth it. Being the middle of the week, the resort was almost deserted. The grounds were beautifully manicured, pools, washroom facilities very clean, and friendly staff. It was convenient to have the restaurant right on the premise as we had lunch there. Although their menu is limited, the clubhouse sandwich we tried was delicious and generous in portions.

Definitely worth a visit if you like sunbathing in the buff and have no one bothering you.

The grounds are lovely and pool/recreation areas relaxing and clean. That said, it's disappointing that the bar/restaurant hours of operation are so limited. I mean, if you're at a nude resort and are enjoying not having to put your clothes on and go out, it sucks to have to wait til 11:30 am to grab a bite to eat, and it would be nice if the bar would stay open at least until 10 or 11pm on weekends!
I realize one is paying for the 'experience' but the "newly refurbished rooms" leave a lot to be desired. Very plain, no frills, no character or interior decor to speak of. Plain Wrap. AND I know this may sound petty, but I can't remember the last time I visited a hotel and they didn't even provide shampoo! I mean for $200 plus per night at a 'resort' I'd at least expect what a room would have at any ordinary hotel! Also, in all three rooms I've stayed in the in-room coffee pot had no outlet near it. We had to search for a plug outlet and in one instance had to sit the coffee pot on the floor! Perhaps when they refurbished the rooms this could have been worked out?
Now that we know we'll bring our breakfast, shampoo, conditioner and supply of beverages in next time, or perhaps choose a less expensive option and only go in for day use.
I dunno, guess RESORT doesn't necessarily mean amenities.
I will say that the grounds and pool area is lovely and well-maintained, the vibe very relaxing. Also they seem to be flexible on early check-in/late check out and the staff is for the most part helpful.
So if you don't mind an over-priced room as a trade-off for naked freedom, go!

We have always provided amenities such as shampoo to our guests. If for some reason this room did not have any, we would have immediately supplied the guests with some.

Our guests have expressed that they are very happy with the changes in the Chaparral rooms. They have new bathrooms, paint, carpet, mattresses, TV, DVD player, and furniture and we still kept the Desert Shadows room rates. We have added another cabinet to hold the refrigerator and the coffee maker has a plug in right beside it.

If you don't care for the hotel room decor, then we have other options. Check out the Courtyard, Villa or 1 and 2 bedroom condos if you need more luxury.

We are very lucky to be one of the few nudist resorts that has a full restaurant and liquor license. Currently, we keep it open at least 5 days a week as a guest service during the winter and 7 days a week during the summer. We are open for breakfast on the weekends.

It's been 4 months since I stayed at the Desert Sun. It is exciting to see all the improvments they made in four months. Everything about this place keeps getting better.
Mike, the manager is great, always helpful, alway smiling and greeting people. The people at the desk are terrific, they are so helpful in so many ways, when you ask a question they get the answer, they set up tours, shows and anything else you need help with. Harvy the restaurant manager is a guy you get to know very quick and the food is excellent, I would put them against LGs ( a top rated restauant) for sure. This is the paradise of resorts. there may be construction going on in some areas but it's not a problem since they keep it contained. I got a chance to peek in one of the newly remodeled rooms and was totally impressed. I have sent friends to the Desert Sun and they thanked me for sending them there. If you want the best at a resonable price this is for you. It is a true nudist resort that welcomes everyone, couples and singles. You don't have people clicking pictures with their cell phone or cameras or hear boom boxes, these things aren't allowed outside the room. I could go on for a long time but I better stop.If you are a true nudist you will love it here.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions ja260@aol.com. I just love this place!
