My husband and I recently stayed here in the Rocky Shores room. The property was immaculate and the room overlooked the ocean. Customer service was fantastic and the staff & accommodations couldn't be better. The bed was like a cloud and I fell in love with the sheets!

There are bike/kayak/paddle board rentals close by, and it was within walking distance of the aquarium & Cannery Row. Also a short drive to Carmel, which is where we spent most of our time. The beaches are cleaner in Carmel also.

Good to know: our room was on the 3rd floor. As far as I could tell, there were no elevators on the property. It was fine for us (and my husband who got to carry our luggage) but if going up & down stairs is an issue, maybe a different room would be better.

The only reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are: unfortunately we booked during a heat wave and there is no air conditioning, which is not uncommon in the area but the room is on the 3rd floor and got very warm. There was no breeze at all so even with windows open, there was no "cool ocean breeze" and sleeping was a little difficult. However, there was a small fan that we put in the window and it helped.

Also, this probably applies to Pacific Grove and it's tourists/inlanders looking for relief from the heat more than the property itself but never the less, it subtracted from our lovely vacation. Trash on the beaches. Tons of it. I booked this property in part due to it's proximity to Lovers Point and my husband and I got up really early, grabbed a coffee and went to see the sun rise (I think I heard that it's one of the only places on the west coast that you can watch the sun rise over the water due to it's orientation). There was a heartbreaking amount of trash on the beach and at the park. On the positive side, there was a humpback whale feeding in the bay and it was magical but made me that much more conscious of all the trash, some of which I'm sure ends up in the ocean.

Dear Guests, Thank you for staying with us over Labor Day Weekend in the lovely and private Rocky Shores Room. We appreciate your detailed comments about your stay, your room, the comfort of the bed and linens and for mentioning our wonderful staff.

As you may know, almost all of California experienced a dramatic heat wave with double digit temperatures everywhere inland and even at the ocean which is typically very cool. The average temperature here in summer is a high of 70 with a low in the 50s overnight. The Monterey area experienced record breaking heat over these 3 days and since almost no homes or businesses have air conditioning this made it difficult for everyone and drove large amounts of people to the beach to cool off. These beachgoers appear to have left behind distressing remnants of their stay.

We have passed on your comments to the Pacific Grove Mayor, City Council, City Manager and Chamber of Commerce with a request to respond more quickly and cleanup after heavy use times. Again, thank you for your stay and we hope to see you on your next visit to California!

The photo above suggests something pastoral but that you can forget. The room with a view had one of those views that only real estate agents are wont to call a vista. They did offer a change of room, that had slightly more view but we decided to move on as this was not what we had expected, at all. They did refund the room deposit so no continued complaint other than the wrong kind of advertising.

These guests booked through an on-line travel agency. There were several communications with him before their arrival including many difficult and specific requests that we were able to accommodate. Our website photos and room information is very accurate and very detailed. A detailed description is sent to ALL guests that book through the on-line travel agents regarding the amenities of Seven Gables and the specific room that was reserved for them. Upon arrival they were not happy with their room and they were offered several other options with lovely ocean views that were immediately rejected. It is always our policy to give an immediate refund if a guest is not happy with their room for any reason. From their other review in the area they appear to have opted to stay at a local Pacific Grove motel which was perhaps able to accommodate their specific requirements,

Overall, Seven Gables Inn is a beautiful property in an equally beautiful location. We stayed in the 2-story, 2-bed/2-bath Jewel cottage and it truly is a gem. The "cottage" feels more like a full-featured house. Completely detached, it is full of windows and light that beams in from all four sides. The living room is spacious and has a large, working fireplace, with a view of the Bay. The kitchen is spacious and even has a petit, formal dining table and chairs. The small fridge is stocked with a variety of soft drinks. Water, granola bars, and peppermints also are made available on a completely complementary basis. The large bedrooms feature luxury linens and views of the Bay. The first floor bedroom even has its own porch and access to a lovey, bricked garden patio.

Breakfast features full continental dining, served in a beautiful dining room with an expansive view of the Monterey Bay coastline. The early evening wine & cheese includes a diverse selection of wines, cheeses that are served along with a vegetable crudités and dessert. Freshly baked cookies and milk are served a little later in the evening. The nightly turn-down service includes the next morning's breakfast menu and Dove chocolates. Outside, guests can enjoy seating areas nestled in gardens and brick patios throughout the property. Seven Gables Inn is a family-owned business with a friendly, well-informed staff that is eager make their guests feel special and spoiled.

We stayed in the Seal Rocks room, which has giant windows with full ocean views. The view alone was completely worth it. The whole property is decorated with vintage furniture. Stained glass windows everywhere. Breakfast was absolutely amazing; we got there early to get a window seat. Parking was limited and we parked on the street which was a bit of a pain but not too bad. Right across the street is Lover's Point, a wonderful little beach and walking path. I would love o stay at this hotel again!

We stayed 2 nights here in one of the premium rooms. It's like going back in time; quaint old fashioned decor. Staff were efficient and helpful and breakfast was tasty. We had a panoramic view of the shore and the bay from our room. It was an expensive inn, I've stayed in better for less money but I suppose it is a prime piece of real estate on an expensive bit of shore. If you like accommodation that is evocative of days gone by and you don't mind paying extra, this is for you.
