To call this part of Novato "old" is adding a new definiton to the word. It is only old if we compare it to the sprawling prefab commercial outlets on the outside of town. Yes, there are some upscale restaurants, delis, and boutique shops but that doesn't make this part of town necessarily old. But, then again, when so much of America has been taken over by Walmart, Kmart, Costco and the innumerable fast food joints any street that has architecture going back to the 1950's could be called old. Unless you love to spend money in overpriced shops there isn't much to see or do here.

Don't bother, keep driving and go to Petaluma. One good restaurant, Grazei, one good bar, deBorbas and that's it.

but I found a lot to like in Old Town Novato like visiting the thrift store and a wonderful antique shop, the Mi Pueblo Mexican restaurant and the Trek winery. I hope to review them separately.

The old town area is a small stretch of older shops, restaurants and bar that has a mixture of older businesses that have been there for a long time and some new and interesting businesses mixed in. There is an art painting studio that looked like fun. The day we visited there was a street farmers market set up along most of the Main Street section with a live band, farm fresh foods, pony rides and a lot of vendors selling their items. It was a fun and active scene and good to see this small town with that much activity in the older part of town.
