“Not as good as anticipated...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2012

After reading the reviews on Mastro's, I was expecting "exceptional". I made the reservation at least a month in advance, asking for a window seat to view the ocean. We got there on time, and were told that our reserved seat was not available, as the other party was still in it. They offered us a table in the lounge area. The area offered was not what we had asked for and after having a reservation a month in advance, they should have had a table ready for us. We ended up going to the lounge but said we wanted our window table when it was ready. The lounge was beautiful, but loud and packed. It's a great lounge for having a drink, but not for a quiet, romantic, anniversary celebration! We ordered a drink, and placed our food order. After the bread was served, whch was delicious bread, our window table opened up. We were moved and finished our dining there. I was told the lobster was fantastic, by the first waittress, so I gave it a try. One tail and one giant prawn. My husband ordered a rib eye. Portions are big so we split the veggies and a potato. Big disappointment! The lobster was soft, almost mushy! The prawn was good. I should have sent it back but for some reason, didn't... The waiter was very nice and brought us a plate with two desserts and Happy Anniversary written on the plate with chocolate. Overall, for a dinner that cost around $200 out the door, the entire experience should have been amazing. It was just average, not even above average... I probably wouldn't go there again unless it was for a drink in the lounge... too bad...

“Always excellent...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

Loved the Seafood Tower, Carpaccio w/ Arugula, and Whole Fried Soft Shell Crab as appetizers. Loved my 12 oz Bone-in Filet. Always finish with their infamous Butter Cake!
Their Australian Wagyu Beef is excellent and I am sure is very expensive. We paired with Australian 2006 Penfold Syrah. It was soo good....

“Elegant and Delicious”

Great wine selection, and very good menu. Quite pricey, but the food is prepared beautifully, and I definitely did not leave hungry. The atmosphere is perfect for a business dinner, or any type.

“Spectacular setting for an 80th birthday celebration”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2012

After reading the reviews here, I expected an exorbitantly priced meal with excellent service. What I did not hear about is the exquisite and unique physical space of this restaurant that - at least for this group of out-of-town visitors - took an impeccable meal and BAM kicked it up a notch. We arrived about 30 mins before sunset and were escorted through the restaurant - through several indoor-outdoor spaces, set around a beautiful tree that grows right through the middle of the restaurant. It has the feeling of being at someone's home in Tuscany - someone very very wealthy - but inviting, hospitable, cozy but chic. The space itself has a wonderful energy so that by the time we were seated, our whole party was already abuzz. We were in a bit of a hurry unfortunately so we did not end up ordering much in the way of drinks. As a result, our check - for a party of eight adults - came out to $450. Not bad at all, given what my expectations were from reviews here. Of course, the food and the service were outstanding. The staff brought a beautiful chocolate ganache out with spoons and a huge bowl of whipped cream for all to share in honor of my dad's 80th birthday. The pastry chef had written, "Happy 80th birthday" in chocolate sauce script around the plate. Beautiful touch! Overall, we had a magical experience here. By the time we left, there was a terrific vocalist playing in the lounge and the vibe of the whole place changed once again - this time to a wonderful piazza type of feel - like it might feel on an evening in Capri with folks all feeling good, looking great, enjoying beautiful music and a lovely view. Even though we were late to our next event, we all lingered for a few moments to soak in the wonderful energy. Next time I return to the Newport area, I am unquestionably coming back here and will make an entire evening of it.
