We just returned from a highly-anticipated three-day conference at the Napa Valley Marriott. Though we've been traveling to wine country for 17 years, we've never been able to stomach Napa hotel prices. (We typically stay in Fairfield.) So when our group rate brought the Marriott down to something manageable, I jumped on the opportunity to try it out.

The hotel itself was lovely, well-maintained, and in a perfect location for wine country. Easy to find on Highway 29 and right across the highway from a large shopping center. We're outdoor lovers, so we loved jogging on the Napa Vine Trail which runs right in front of the hotel (the hotel also has free bikes you can borrow). The garden and courtyard, complete with fire pits, were perfect for lounging with a glass of wine (or coffee in the morning).

Check in was quick, but not without hiccups: no recognition of Elite status (seems to be a theme at this hotel) and even though we were booked into a Concierge Level room, they initially neglected to program our key for the lounge. Our King room was modern, plenty large for two people and spotlessly clean. Everything in the room worked and was in good condition. Along with the usual amenities our room featured a chaise lounge chair, a refrigerator, and a glass shower (the shower appears unique to Concierge level rooms). The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet save for some hallway noise.

Despite the complaints of other reviewers, we found the food and service in the Concierge Lounge to be on par with most other Marriott/Starwood properties we've stayed at. We loved that fact that even though breakfast didn't start until 6, they had fruit and granola out as early as 5 in case you needed something light to start your day. For East Coasters adjusting to the time change, this was fabulous!

We didn't try the restaurant, but several in our group commented that it was very good. A quick glance at the wine list revealed it to be an afterthought (ahem, this is Napa.) Fortunately, there is a free wine tasting every evening in the lobby. We didn't have high hopes for this, but to our surprise the hotel brought in some pretty solid wineries to pour their wines. Nice touch!

Because of our conference schedule, we were't able to take advantage of the spa, pool, or fitness center. The fitness center shares a building with the spa while the hotel advertises a hot tub, it's actually one of the spa whirlpools which is only open for a couple hours in the morning for guest use. We found this annoying. We were also frustrated by a mystery $60 charge from the restaurant that was added to our bill upon check out. The front desk removed it, but without apology.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We really enjoyed our room, our large conference was handled with grace and ease, and most of the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the front desk staff were the weak link at this hotel, and for a property that usually commands north of $400 a night, this is unusual.

I've stayed here 3 or 4 other times; it was always excellent in the past. This time, the place was so crowded, it seemed like a zoo in the lobby; it had previously always been very serene. Also, the rooms are a bit dated but clean. The parking was the worst ever. With a lot of rain, the parking issues were compounded. At one point, there wasn't one available spot after circling the building three times.

I just stayed three days and two nights at the Napa Valley Marriott & Spa for a work conference. The hotel has a beautiful facility that is clean and very close to Highway 29. The staff was pleasant and provide excellent customer service, especially Ms. Treyana Lowe who checked me it. She was really wonderful and made my stay memorable. The room was large and the furniture was in good condition. The bathroom was large and spotless. The bed was amazingly comfortable which added to my enjoyment and restful nights. I can't wait to go back!

Room tip: Get a room on the 1st floor near the concierge lounge.

I’d stayed here a few years ago and it seemed if a renovation on the rooms had occurred. The TV was set with internet so watching my current show was easy!

The concierge lounge was spacious and had good breakfast and dinner food. The parking is a challenge if arriving late but not enough of a put-off not to stay.

I’ll return for work!

The Marriott at Napa is conveniently located and easily accessible. It’s very close to almost all great wineries.
The feel and aesthetics of the place is very nice. Staff is cordial and willing to help.
The rooms are great, although it’s a bit noisy as all the sounds from outside is coming in.
Apart from that, rooms are great, very comfortable, and a good size.
Food is also nice, room service is quick and breakfast is good.
