Usually when we’re on vacation we ask the concierge for recommendations while staying at their hotel. After we get our recommendations we research them by looking at all the reviews. Torc came up the biggest winner and after dining here we know why. It was truly a culinary experience!
We were greeted by the owner when we walked in with open arms and enthusiasm. We were seated immediately and Randy, our waiter came over immediately to introduce himself and take our drink orders. He could not have been more efficient or friendlier. Randy made our experience at Torc amazing! He steered us in the right direction with all our choices.
We started off with the heirloom tomatoes and the hamachi crudo shared amongst the 6 of us. We ordered enough to set our appetites. Both appetizers were out of this world. We also had the sweet potato tots and the pepper sides with our appetizers also. Both were incredible.
The chef was so kind to send over an order of pasta for the table in between our appetizers and main course since the steak we ordered takes 45 minutes to prepare. The pasta was amazing too!
For our main course we all shared the strip and the ribeye steaks. The steaks were out of this world. They were both tender and cooked to perfection. They had a perfect sauce on them with roasted vegetables. The steak actually melted in our mouths. We also shared the red snapper which was outstanding also. It came with calamari and shrimp with white beans in a very light sauce.
We could not have enjoyed a dinner more! Everything was perfect from the atmosphere to the service to the incredible food. We walked out of Torc knowing we had just experienced the number one restaurant in Napa Valley!

We were scolded and corrected by the hostess!

We showed up at 5:13pm for a 5:15pm res. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us, "I was just about to cancel your reservation." Why bother telling us that? Then she asks what we would like to drink, either sparkling water, made onsite, or still water. My bf said, "Tap." She promptly corrected him by saying, "Still." I followed up with, "Tap". It was not a surprise that the server ended up bringing us sparkling water by mistake.

If I wanted to be scoldred and corrected by the hostess, I could have had the same treatment at my parents' house, but with free food. Hahaha!

Also, the food seem to have more of a focus on presentation than on substance. The ravioli squash had a sweetened taste clashing with a salty taste. My bf ordered the lobster risotto which tasted and looked like a bowl of liquid mint. The food seemed oddly spiced all around.

We skipped dessert and walked a few doors down to the frozen yogurt place on the corner.

I won't be returning here primarily because of the rude hostess, who seems to be the subject of complaints in other reviews.

Great experience for a group of 8. Amazing wine list, food very good and enjoyable. Nice service too - even with a larger group and crowded restaurant.

Also, the vibe here is chic. I’m big on ambience and this restaurant does a good job with it.

The only reason I’m giving a 4 is based on the truffle pasta I ordered. It was good, not great (weak infusion of truffle) but still very enjoyable. All appetizers were super tasty.

Keep up the good work!

Wow! If you like a little adventure on your plate, this is the place. Each meal is a well thought out experience. Definitely not for the picky eater.
The staff here defines what true service should be. Each and everyone of them was kind, knowledgeable and so very helpful.
But, be aware before you sit down to order, this is NOT a cheap eats place. The service and food come with a price tag.

This stylish restaurant had the choice of a three course tasting menu with a wine pairing option or ala carte. It was difficult to choose because everything on the menu sounds fabulous and the food did not disappoint. I had squash blossoms to start and a squash ravioli in brown butter with figs. My friends did the tasting menu and were equally pleased. Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and professional. The wine was delicious and our server was knowledgeable about the wine.
