This was a great way to see the valley from Napa to St. Helena. Our expectations for the food on the train were modest since usually the food on these kinds of things is just adequate. We checked in at the station and it seemed kind of tacky, but it may have just been because it was crowded. Seats on the train are reserved. We were given a taste of two wines while we were waiting. Once on the train, however, everything was first class. We had booked on the vista dome car, one of those observation cars popular mid-20th century. The food was as good as the best restaurants we had been on during our trip. Very nice wines. Super comfortable and elegant. Our waiter, Gerald, was a native of Napa and besides being an excellent waiter, kept us informed about the passing scene outside. Because we had been touring and tasting for the previous six days, it gave us an opportunity to see these wineries from a different angle. This three hour trip was a terrific and relaxing way to spend our time. You need to book well ahead, especially for this dome car, as it is the only one. This is not cheap, but one of those examples of where you do get value for the money.
