We were all a little worried we weren't going to see whales before we started the cruise. However, we weren't disappointed. The captain quickly found a pod just a few miles off shore, and we were treated to hours of whale feeding at 2 locations. The degreed Marine Biologist on board kept us informed and answered all our questions. There was plenty of coffee, tea and snacks on board. It was a very good experience and I would highly recommend this cruise operator.

This was one of the best experiences of our time in Monterey. The biologist onboard was extremely knowledgeable and shared detailed information along the way. We saw humpbacks galore and they put on a beautiful display of lunge feeding, breaching, and even came close enough for us to see their baleen at one point. This was a solid three hours of an unforgettable up close look at nature's giants. Don't miss it! Two pieces of advice : Dress warmly in layers and don't waste your time taking pictures and videos. Appreciate being in the moment with these majestic creatures.

We took the 8 am 2 hour trip. We saw some humpback resting on the surface and a few dives. We also saw a pod of risso's dolphins. The crew said the whales had been quite inactive in the morning recently and that a longer trip was needed to see the bigger marine animals (other than humpbacks). You may want to bear this in mind when booking your trip. We were disappointed not to see more, as that afternoon and the next day we saw whales breaching and lunge feeding from the shore from the coastal walk from lovers point in pacific grove.

I took the boat two times the same week. The experience was great. We saw lots of humbacks, Rissos dolfins and many California sea lions. Mike, the captain, is a great person, and the marine biologist working with him know all the species present in the Bay very well. I will repeat for sure and recommend this boat to any one interested in Monterrey Bay marine biology

We sailed on the 8 AM cruise with Captain Mike and Chase. When we first headed out I wasn't sure we would see any whales, then Boom! there they were. Churning up the water. Chase was explaining about the different types of whales as Capt, Mike kept getting us closer. For the next 45 minutes or so, we just went along with them. What a great trip. We weren't close enough to reach out and touch them, but boy we did get close. Why anyone would go out on a larger boat is beyond me. We had plenty of room to move about, even when we had to shift sides to get a better look at them. If your planning to go on a whale watching trip, skip Santa Cruz and Monteray as those boats end up coming down toward Moss Landing anyway and call Sanctuary Cruises. Capt. Mike will get you out there in half the time and you'll have a great time. We went out with family and friends and everyone had a great time.

I get emotional just recalling our whale watching experience. There is nothing like seeing these majestic creatures in the wild - it will move your soul. Add in that you have a marine biologist on board a small boat, and it's the perfect setup for an experience of a lifetime. A humpback whale popped up incredibly close to the boat, as if checking us out, and then breached backwards so as to not splash us! Then a mother and calf played a long time alongside the boat. There were whales all along the horizon, near and far. We also saw sea otters, seals, and sea lions. Highly recommend, this trip is a must-do on a visit to the area.

If you are planning to include a Whale Watching excursion as part of your trip - you don't need to look any further! The location is ideal because they can get you to the whales much faster than the tours out of Monterey. The smaller boat is also much better than the larger, often overcrowded boats that many of the others offer. We had SO much time with the whales. Captain and Naturalist are awesome! Very skilled at finding the whales and guiding you to where to look. We got SO close quite a few times - the adrenaline rush started 20 minutes in and lasted the entire trip

We had gone on a 2 hour tour with Sanctuary Cruises a while back and decided to go today. Knowing that every day beyond the middle of October is a complete gift, we decided to make the most of it and treated ourselves to a 4 hour tour. It was so worth just being on the Bay on a calm, windless, warm day that we were just so excited when we saw several groups of whales, culminating in a feeding group of about 7 whales and lots of sea lions. It was pure magic. We had, maybe, 10 other friendly visitors aboard and everyone got an eyeful of lunging, tails up and sliding into the water and the whales came within 50 feet of the boat with these behaviors and even went under the boat. It was so worth the time and we feel so lucky to have been able to do this tour, on this small boat, with a few people and wonderful weather. It was truly something to behold. The captain was expert and Chase, our biologist, was friendly and informative. Be sure to layer your clothing and we brought sandwiches and water although they have a variety of sweet and savory items each for $2. A great great time was had by all! And parking is $8 cash at harbor master's office.

Captain Mike and Erika were truly wonderful. We took the morning 8am tour. I had taken a tour out in SF Bay a couple weeks earlier and we just saw one humpback at a far distance so honestly, my expectations were not that high.
To my surprise, within 5 minutes from leaving the dock in Moss Landing we spotted our first whale! Then it didn’t stop! So many, wasn’t sure where to look as people were calling out, ONE O’CLOCK, SIX O’CLOCK.... TWELVE O’CLOCK... so exciting! Best whale watch experience every! Thank you to the crew and being so respectful of their space! Magnificent beauty! Wish I could post one of my unbelievable videos here!

We were lucky enough to sail with Captain Mike and Erica for the 5pm cruise on a monday afternoon and had a phenomenal time. We have whale watched a great many times in a number of different places and found Sanctuary Cruises to be one of the best. The small boat they use means you have a sense of peace and quiet while around the whales and you don't feel as though you are disturbing them in any way. The boat was comfortable, there were seats and space for all of us and with only 11 on board it was a perfect number of people to share the experience with.
Mike and Erica were very knowledgeable and had a sense of excitement that was infectious. We only booked a couple of hours before the cruise and we did so as a local recommended Sanctuary above all other operators. We sailed with another company a few hours before and had a great time but Sanctuary was by far the best for their passion for the wildlife.
