This is a superb hotel for couples, especially in the winter as the rooms have lovely big fireplaces with real flame effect fires which are so warm & cosy. Add to this the Jacuzzi bath in the room and all you need is a bottle of wine for a perfect end to a busy day sightseeing. Breakfast was good & plentiful and the staff were friendly, efficient & knowledgeable so thank you all for a terrific & welcoming stay.
Great location, just one block away from all the quaint shops and superb restaurants of Morro Bay. The hotel also has great car parking facilities.

We visited Morro Bay for about 5 days. Joseph and Sean we're quite helpful. They gave great suggestions on dining and things to do in the area.
The inn is well maintained. Our room was spacious and very clean. Lord willing we will be back.

So we are a family of four and our kids are 8 and 5. We rented the Tudor Suite which is on the top floor corner with Ocean view and perfect Morro Bay Rock view. We wondered if the extra $60 from a deluxe room to the suite was worth it. Ladies and gentlemen, it definitely is with kids. Although even the regular rooms are spacey and long, it was well worth it to get the suite. One, there is a great view from the master bedroom window and living room balcony of Morro Bay Rock (see pictures). Two, there is a jacuzzi bathtub in the suite bathroom along with a fireplace in the living room of the suite. Three, there was a comfortable double sleeper sofa in the living room for the kids with a door between that and the master bedroom so parents can have their privacy. The bathroom and vanity area is between the living room and master bedroom.
Another advantage of this hotel is that it is half a block up a slight hill from the main street (Embarcadero) right at the midpoint of that street. A couple easily manageable staircases lead from the upper street down to Embarcadero where all the quaint shops and restaurants are. If you are easily winded or a cardiac patient, it may be better not to stay here as the staircases and the slight half block uphill walk may not be suitable for elder guests. At 53, we had no problems whatsoever.
You can walk left from the staircase bottom and go all the way to Tidelands Park for little kids. If you walk right, you can walk all the way to the Rock and the beach to the right of it. Either way, there are plenty of restaurants and shops. The Shell Shop is on the left. SBI shop and GioVanni's restaurant are to the right. A great little dessert coffee shop is at the base of the staircase with seating around an open indoor firepit. Chocolate covered twinkies and apple turnovers and ice cream were what we tried. Hot cocoa and coffee are also available there.
If you walk all the way right, you will see the Harbour Hut before you get to the rock right on the water with a bayview and Rock view. The owner is a man named Patrick and he will take good care of you. I had Ribeye steak and grilled prawns with a garden salad with balsamic dressing. It was a good view and the food was very good.
Back to the Ascot Suites Hotel, there is a wine tasting event around 5 pm each night (I don't drink so I cant comment there). The included breakfast (7 am-10 am) was good too. There was scrambled eggs and you could make your waffles. Juices, milk, water and pastries were also available. Fresh-made Salsa for the eggs was a pleasant surprise. The only thing inconvenient about breakfast was a small eating area in the lobby. Come early or late and you might avoid the crowd. The staff was friendly and helpful. They get to know you. Parking was no problem and there was one luggage trolley which was available for use.
In the hotel, we were comfortable. The decor was definitely a bit too granny-ish for me but hey, that is the age segment which this hotel is probably catering to. As I mentioned before, there is a fireplace. It was too close to the foot of the sleeper sofa when it is rolled out. We did not use the fireplace for that reason. Also, the jacuzzi/bathtub/shower was great to relax in with a bubble bath for the kids. However, there was no shower curtain so when we took baths in the morning, water sprayed out to the floor and we had to lay towels down (see picture). That was strange. It should be there.
Also the door between the bedroom and the living room had to lifted and pushed hard to close. It did not align well with the doorway. Again, mostly couples stay here so I guess there was no need to close it usually.
We also got a terrific sunset (see picture). All in all, the hotel helped make it a nice, comfortable stay. I would not recommend kids here as it is mostly an older couples type place.
