“thanks to the Old Monterey Inn!”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

This was such a lucky find. I thought I wanted to stay in Carmel but at the last minute changed to Monterey, and I am so happy I did. This is a lovely, lovely inn and I will absolutely return to it.
I traveled alone and for all who are hesitant about that, think of this B&B. the staff are very friendly, and will make you feel comfortable immediately.

This Inn is the premier small inn in the old section of Monterey and no question it is good. There are a few rough spots residual from the previous ownership --- and to be fair the new owners are working on improvements. The outside grounds are spectacular. Inside I suggest they restore some of the old wood floors back to service in the upper level rooms. Wall to wall carpet is everywhere upstairs ( and I suspect not new carpet ). For allergy sufferers it is a problem. Cudos for the inviting afternoon happy hour of wine and cheese and meet and greet with the owners and other guests in the parlor. The open fire made it a warm, inviting ocassion. The dining room is also a joy with the big open fireplace going, and the breakfast was elegant including fine china service. We did find the meal a little rich however. I understand that if you request something simpler in advance they will try to accommodate you but this was not made clear to us on arrival. Speaking of arrival we had to wait outside for about 10 minutes until staff let us in. Then you have to endure a rather clumsy documentation and orientation session before you get your keys. Finally ( and a big one for me ) morning coffee was supposed to be available for early risers from 7:00 a.m. ( breakfast is not till 8:30 ). But one morning there was no milk out for the coffee. We got dressed and went to Pete's for a coffee. But I am being picky. All in all a good small Inn experience, but with a need for a little fine tuning to come up to a standard fully worthy of the price point charged.

Room Tip: It's an old home so there will be some floor squeeks and a ventilation noises until everyone is...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, we always appreciate feedback from our guests, as it is the best way to ensure a memorable stay for each and every one of our valued customers. It is our intention to provide the best possible experience for all of our guests, and as such, we are constantly striving to maintain the entire property in an immaculately clean fashion, including vacuuming all of our carpets daily, and shampooing them on a strict schedule to avoid any allergy issues.
Meanwhile, we have shared the fact that there was not creamer available for coffee that morning with the entire staff, in order to ensure we will always have morning creamer available in addition to the non-dairy creamer which can always be found next to the coffee.
Again, we appreciate our guests sharing their experiences, and giving us the opportunity to make the Old Monterey Inn even better.

The owners of this lovely Inn are master Innkeepers. Katy, the owner, is a very gracious and knowledgeable host who greeted us warmly. She attended to dinner reservations for us with wonderful recommends, V.I.P. tickets to the Aquarium so we would not have to stand in line and was helpful in planning side trips. Cookies and hot beverages are always available as is sherry or port. In the late afternoon wine and appetizers are served in the living room. No attention to detail is spared. Warm, inviting, comfortable, gracious....perfect! Donna

We spent a romantic weekend in Monterey at the Old Monterey Inn. We felt completely spoiled at OMI! Our room was incredible: huge feather bed, fireplace and 2-person jacuzzi tub.

The staff brought us breakfast in bed every morning: usually a delectable baked item that was well beyond my expectations, as well as fresh OJ, coffee and fruit. Every afternoon we enjoyed a wine and cheese hour in the main house.

Finally, they were expert at setting up excursions for us. They arranged a secluded beach bonfire for us one evening, complete with a beach blanket, s'mores, and roses. The next day they arranged a sea kayaking trip for us in Moss Landing, and made dinner reservations for us at 1833, a nice restaurant within walking distance.

The staff was so friendly, responsive to our needs, and generous. I wouldn't change a thing about our stay!

Room Tip: We had the Stoneleigh room... absolutely lovely. A king-sized bed with a fireplace at the foot, and...

We very much enjoyed our two night stay at the Old Monterey Inn. The rooms and grounds are well maintained, and the new owners went out of their way to welcome us. The breakfast each morning was freshly cooked, hot, and most tasty. The first day it was described as an asparagus frittata but when served it was really an incredible asparagus souffle'. Our second morning, we found a fresh berry french toast that was much more like a light bread pudding. You may chose to eat in the dining room or in your room.
The home is located a short walk from downtown Monterey in a residential area with lots of vegetation. The first morning I went outside at about 0645 and saw two deer in the yard.
I debated between staying in Carmel and at this location. I am happy we chose this B&B.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a larger suite upon arrival as a courtesy, but I am sure we would have enjoyed a...
