“Very Nice! Great Room, Great Stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2012

My husband and I stayed here one night. We were blown away on how nice everything was considering the reasonable prices you pay for Monterey. This is about a 15 min walk to the water and a 5 min walk to the main street.

We really enjoyed the hot tub and pool at night.

The staff is wonderful!

What was neat was the fireplaces in the room and the rooms are very spacious.

I would stay here again for sure!

Room Tip: I would request a room on the top floor.

You really need a car if you stay here. It is not near the beach and Carmel By The Sea and Big Sur are only driving accessible. Was here for a wedding in Carmel during August so it was $179/night. Really quite cold in the 60s during the day. ON THE PLUS SIDE: Nicely appointed. Comfy bed. Basic cable. Thermostat worked well. A fireplace! With a timer! The shower stall was GREAT- no mildewy curtains!!! Parking is free. Nice shampoo/conditioner. Hair dryer had good power. Dennys and Jack in the box around the corner. French bakery nearby as well. Helpful front staff- one guy printed driving directions to SFO without my asking. MINUS: The other reviews were spot on about the lack of soundproofing. I could hear my neighbors UNPACKING. The balcony looks on to a... brick wall. Really? (I suppose it's better than looking onto a parking lot or the street.) The "free" wifi is basically useless as I had 2 bars or 1 bar... at 3am! No one should have been on it at that time of day and it was still slow as molasses on a cold day! The thing is, they want you to "upgrade" to the premium Wifi which can also range from $6 to $8/day. On top of your room fee, the tax and tourism fees. So do not figure in the basically USELESS WIFI in the cost/benefits of this hotel. There is no spa, no salon, no massage service- for a boutique hotel, there weren't lots of amenities aside from a sad looking restaurant that looked like it served Dennys food at The Palm prices- but it did smell good. ALL IN ALL: Convenient to drive to all the places on Route 1. Nice rooms. Not great value, but a decent place to stay if you don't mind paying boutique hotel prices for a Best Western experience. If they offered a decent free breakfast (perhaps pastries from the local French Bakery) at the current price, it would be better.

The rooms are spacious, clean and beautiful. The bathroom was quite big and there was an extra sink outside of the bathroom. The hotel itself is pastoral and beautiful. The only down side- in some of the buildings there is no elevator, and there is no one to help with the luggage..

Beautiful hotel, huge rooms, all brand new, fireplaces, great location. But the very best is the staff. Friendly and helpful front desk staff, over-the-top housekeeping. On checkout I left my camera ($450) in the room. When I realized this later that night, I called and was told that the housekeeper had found the camera and that it would be mailed to me! Where else would that happen?
