Wonderful experience at hte Rio Villa Russian River Beach Resort! While it was our first time, we were treated as if we had been guests for years. Ron was incredibly helpful and had many suggestions of things we could do in the area with our toddler. The location is ideal, private beach, large local beach less than a block away and a short drive to the beach. Very close to excellent restaurants and a grocery store within blocks of the resort. The room was very clean and spacious. We especially enjoyed all the outside seating areas and the breakfast was really nice. We've decided we will make this resort our destination at least twice a year!

Room Tip: Book in advance if possible. The owners are very accomadating, but if you know you need a kitchen, plan accordingly.

Read this before you reserve a room. Unlike any other hotel for which I have ever reserved a room, there is a fee of 25.00 if you cancel your reservation. This fee is not charged for a special discount rate, but for a general room reservation. There is no warning about this unusual practice when you okay the charges and the description of this practice on the website is very misleading. Doesn't matter if you cancel more than a month in advance. Reading the other trip advisor reviews, it is clear that this owner has a personality problem if he gives his guests a hard time and conducts business in this questionable manner. When there are so many other choices, why select this?

Unfortunately, this reviewer did not stay with us as they claimed, but merely booked a room online. Our online system lays out our cancellation policy and requires that they check a box that they've read the policy before it accepts their request. Since we charge a one-night deposit up front, we always tell folks when they call that we charge a $25 cancellation fee if they cancel unless it's within the 7-day non-refundable window. So when someone books online, we inform them before they book the room... then it's repeated in the confirmation notice that they receive. Because this reviewer booked electronically and then a few days later, cancelled electronically, the refund was less $25 as previously stated. I'm truly sorry this reviewer failed to understand our cancellation policy.

It's definitely a motel but the drive and location are absolutely awesome!! The drive is beautiful. The town is great. It feels like you're in a time warp. There's only 2 places they could recommend for a late (after 7pm) dinner around there. The town is small with country roads. It's hard to describe, but it's worth a trip out if you're on a budget. In terms of the room - the shower sucked, the bed was comfortable and the heater works like no other! The staff was friendly and informative however I only had one night booked here. I'll definitely stay again.

There is only one problem with this place: driving by on the main road, you'd go right past it because it looks too close to the road. And that would make you miss a real pleasure. Right behind the first row of cabins, there is the most perfect garden sloping down to the river with several patios and terraces to sit, lawn chairs to lounge in and the river right to wade in. The garden is beautifully kept, and so was my suite (bedroom and sitting-room separately) which was truly spotless. Add to that that there were even books in the room to read by the waterside and the very friendly host, and you have a place that's as close to perfection as one could wish for.

We booked this accomodation for a two-night getaway. We were seeking a location to just "hang" with our kids -- but be able to access internet for a few work obligations. The two room unit met our needs well, with a door that separated the kids room from our own and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Our room was small, but very comfortable. Size did not matter because we spent all of our time lounging in the many chairs around the garden and the lovely garden swing overlooking the river. After the kids fell asleep, we enjoyed the lovely outdoor fireplace with wine obtained from one of the many fantastic Russian River Vineyards. We spent the mornings hiking in Armstrong Park and touring the countryside to visit a winery or two -- and spent the afternoons lounging in our intertubes on the river which was the perfect depth and current for our kids. The local beach was a 50 yard walk through the meadow, and there we rented a canoe for the boys! There is also a grass beach on property.

Each morning the innkeepers put out a small, but adequate continental breakfast. If we stayed for longer, I would have definitely have taken advantage of one of the many brunch restaurants in the area that have excellent reviews -- but the continental met our needs for a short stay.

The Innkeepers were knowledgeable and friendly, but not intrusive. We hope to go back without our little ones and take advantage of one of the riverfront rooms with spa!

If you have noise sensitivity, you may want to ask for a room further back from the road as there is some road noise. It did not bother us at all, but for a sensitive sleeper, a room further back might better suit your needs.

Enjoy!
