I LOVE visiting lighthouses and make a point to try and do so whenever I'm near one. Point Cabrillo is not the most impressive light I've visited but it is very charming and the view is still impressive. It has clearly been upkept well and all the other buildings match the lighthouse in color and style.
The park operates under regular business hours so I was not able to make it to the gift shop while it was open. However, I was delighted that you are still able to go and visit the (outside of) the lighthouse after it has "closed". And with no admission cost! It's a bit of a walk (downhill) from the parking lot but the path is paved and accessible. There are picnic tables where you can enjoy the view.
This is definitely a must-see if you are staying in the area, especially if you need a little something to do. I didn't notice any paths down to the beach but there are so many other beaches in the area that it was nice to enjoy some cliffs without the temptation of the climb haha.
Enjoyed the visit. The gentleman in the gift shop was great. Still need to go to do the lens tour this year 2024.Amd to buy more gift shop items . Another pewter key chain I want. More literature. And to explore the grounds more.
The lighthouse is a stunning building in a stunning setting and the little history museum is charming and informative. Well worth the 2/3 of a mile walk from the parking area, and well worth visiting even on a day with iffy weather, as we had.
Loved this small state park and the walk to the lighthouse. If you can, take the foot path to the ocean’s edge and not the paved road (which is hot and boring). The views along the way are beautiful, the lighthouse is cute and the museum/gift shop are a bonus.
Loved this lighthouse. January 2023, a storm brought tall waves into the lighthouse and damaged the gift shop and took much of the merchandise into the sea. They are in the process of painting the lighthouse and replacing windows.
The assistant keepers house is open to walk through, the keepers house is a B&B. Jo-Ann, the docent, at the assistant keepers house is lovely and so knowledgeable about the lighthouse and the area.
The parking lot is .5 miles away an you need to walk down a hill to get to the lighthouse and keepers houses. Handicap parking is located closer to the lighthouse.
Beautiful walk and lovely
Take the hike!! It's so worth it! And the gift shop in the lighthouse is so full of goodies. We saw lots of critters, and the lighthouse keepers houses are VRBO's! I'm definitely going to stay there!
Take water or snacks. It's maybe a 2.5 mile hike one way. It's free. And there's a museum perfect for kids education about sea life. I even learned things!
