Owner description: OPEN 365 DAYS a YEAR -- THERE IS NO FEE -- Built between 1908 and 1909, and extensively restored, it is one of the most complete Lightstations in the U.S. and hosts visitors, vacation rentals, receptions and weddings, plus education programs for classes of local students. There is a parking area inside the gate off Point Cabrillo Drive, adjacent to the restored Kearn farmhouse with its public restroom. Enjoy the half mile downhill walk to the Light Station buildings. There is parking for vehicles with Disabled placards at the bottom of the hill. There are two paths to the Station. The dirt path begins at the north end of the parking lot and takes you through the introduced grassland and coastal prairie. The paved access road to the south is an easier walk. The Light Station includes the Lighthouse, which is an active duty Aid to Navigation, containing the original Chance Brothers classic 3rd order Fresnel lens. -- Three restored Lightkeeper homes; the first is a period museum of a lightkeeper's house in the 1930s; the other two houses are comfortable vacation rental homes, -- The restored Blacksmith & Carpentry Shop houses the Marine Science Exhibit with its 240 gallon saltwater aquarium, -- Two lovely vacation rental cottages, and public restrooms, one by the lightkeepers houses and another in the Kearn farmhouse. THERE IS NO FEE to tour the Lighthouse museum/giftshop or the period museum lightkeeper's house, although your donations are welcome. The Lighthouse, 1st Assistant Lightkeeper's House and Marine Science Exhibit are open to the public from 11am to 4pm year-round, including holidays. The State Historic Park grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily.

“Nice Lighthouse But Get Ready To Walk”
Reviewed 12 September 2012

This is a beautiful lighthouse with respect to the architecture. The keeper's cottages also add to the exhibit and you can tour the inside of one of them. This area can get quite foggy so the views around the lighthouse are hard to rate. There is a nice-sized parking lot and the lighthouse only has a suggested donation. The signs once you turn in of 101 lack so just keep going until you find it. Once there, the trail says it is only a 1/2 mile walk each way but it seems longer than that. However, it is a fairly flat dirt trail.

“Do not go without an umbrella”
Reviewed 31 August 2012

We were having a wonderful time visiting the Cabrillo lighthouse and walking around the buildings on a beautiful day. As we began our walk back to the parking, a few drops of rain came down and soon became a cataract of water. Without rain coat or umbrella, we were totally soaked. This is a place where the weather changes in a few minutes and waves come up to the rim.

“Nice Lighthouse!”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

On our Mendocino area visits we frequently make the 1/2 mile walk from the parking area to see this lighthouse. The docents are quite knowledgeable and the displays show the interesting life from another era.
The open first floor of the lighthouse keeper's residence is definitely full of history. A walk around the grounds and seashore is delightful especially if the weather is nice.

“What a Lighthouse”
Reviewed 19 August 2012

My wife and I absolutely enjoyed our time at Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. The 1/2 mile walk from the parking area is well worth it and truly enjoyable! The Science Exhibits and salt water tank was an unexpected treat. Nine years ago we were here in March and saw whales.
