We bought a Groupon for a two night stay, with a second room as a gift for my parents. We all stayed in the barn in rooms 15 (queen bed, jacuzzi) and 16 (king bed, two steps up to a shower). Both rooms were comfortable and well appointed; room 16 was definitely the bigger of the two rooms. Room 16 faces the street, and there are people and cars passing by, so it's a bit noisier and a lot less private. We kept the curtains closed so that people couldn't look in at us. We chose to "go green", not realizing that it meant that the beds wouldn't get made, or the room straightened, or the coffee or toilet paper refreshed. One irritant is that everything is marked with a price: the LED flashlight is $10, and the 4 bottles of lotion/shampoo/conditioner can be yours for just $69! They'll also be happy to extend the checkout time for a fee of $40+ per hour.

The Groupon came with a bottle of wine (which never did get delivered to our room, despite our asking four times), and two $14 chits that could be used in the dining room or bar, but not on the same night. Dinner was fabulous, though quite pricey at $127 per couple after the $14 chit.

Breakfast was outstanding, especially their version of eggs Benedict, and comes with a mimosa or a glass of juice. However, it also comes with full accounting and a demand for a tip, which came to $14 for each of the two days. I've never had a B&B that included breakfast ask for a separate tip before.

Room Tip: There is live entertainment in the bar on the ground floor, so you won't want a room too nearby...

This was a wonderful surprise birthday trip for my husband. We hadn't stayed here before but it was a really sweet experience. The inn and adjacent buildings are comfortable and quaint. We were in the barn building. The king size bed was excellent, room clean and spacious. The bathroom could use some work, not too clean and not enough space to put toiletries, only one paltry glass shelf. We ate our breakfasts there, very good, and both evenings ate our dinner there because the first night was so good! Staff was helpful and pleasant.

What a great way to experience my first visit to Mendocino! We bought the deal on Groupon or Living Social for a two night stay, including breakfast both mornings and some additional credit in the dining room. Our room was up in the suites - about 4 blocks up the road from the main house. The room was lovely - king bed, gas fireplace that really did heat the room, private patio with a hot tub and also a large jacuzzi tub in the room. The minifridge in the room was perfect for the snacks we brought. We actually spent very little time outside of the room - we were looking for a quiet, relaxing get away and we found it here! When we did actually venture from the room, it was primarily to eat, and the food was terrific - both at breakfast and at dinner. With the added bonuses of a nice bottle of wine in the room and a large library of DVDs to borrow from, this was all around a fantastic experience. I look forward to returning!

Room Tip: The suites are about 4 blocks from the main house.

I love the town of Mendocino for it's scenery and history, and my husband spotted a groupon special for a two-night stay; We stayed in one of the luxury suites, and everything was perfect, from the excellent sit-down breakfast, to the bed, to the free bottle of nice wine in the room, to the ocean view. I hope we get a chance to go back.

Room Tip: luxury suites are fabulous. We were in room 31-very nice

Last month, March we stayed for a weekend at Maccallum House in Mendocino. It all started off on the wrong foot so to speak because we arrived at 3:20 pm and they have a strict policy of not allowing check-in till 4pm. We were very tired from the drive and didn't feel like walking around Mendocino. That was their suggestion to us. Just wanted to put my feet up. So at 4pm sharp there was a line of people waiting to check in. This was just ridiculous. The staff was stressed out that they had to deal with so many people at once. This was a Sunday night. Imagine the line for a weekend! Their tokens for drinks at the bar can only be used a 5:00 pm not before and there are absolutely no substitutes for the breakfast. I was thinking about the pancakes but wanted to substitute something else for the ice cream on top but there would have been an extra charge for the ice cream anyway. The front desk gave us the wrong time for breakfast and so we were ignored until I asked when they opened. The suite itself was very lovely and did not disappoint but it was a little tainted by their strict rules. Of the three places we have stayed in the area even though the accommodations were very nice, I would rate them third. I would rate Andirons first, North Cliff second and Maccallum House last.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the other building up the street. 226 or 227.
