My room with a king bed was only $65 plus tax, an incredible price for southern California. At this price, in this area, it's impossible to find a place that is clean, safe, well maintained, and has a good, hard-working staff. Yet, here it is. I chose this place on the basis of Tripadvisor reviews, and they were accurate. Look them over.
Be aware that the regular rooms are smallish (I did not stay in a suite). PCH is a well-traveled highway, and you'll hear a little bit of it in your room. There is no pool or playground, so energetic youngsters may feel a little constrained. For energy savings, you must put your room card in a slot in the wall. That means the AC will not run when you are out. The room can get warm, but it cools down fairly quickly once you get back.
My bathroom was recently updated and sparkling clean. I suspect all of the bathrooms are that way. The room had a large refrigerator (nice and cold), and a brand new microwave. Iron and board are in the closet; plenty of hangars. And WOW! There is full home-style digital cable, with well over 200 channels, at least five HBO channels, and Music Choice. Even great luxury hotels don't offer that much TV. Wifi codes are given at checkin-- it was fast and easy to use. You'll have to sign in online again every 24 hours, but no problem, and no extra charges.
About the location. This is the Pacific Coast Highway, but pretty far inland from the beach. It isn't surf city. Fast food, restaurants, and convenience stores are within walking distance. LA Metro buses run directly in front of the motel. San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula are just a couple of miles away. Torrance and Carson are adjacent. Downtown Long Beach is a very easy twenty minutes away. LAX is a little further. It's definitely at the heart of the South Bay. If my words are confusing, you might want to check a map. LA is huge, and if your principal objective is simply Hollywood or Disneyland, you might want to stay closer to those destinations.
I stayed for four nights, and saw guests from every walk of life: people on business, European tourists, college students, retirees, families with kids. This Rodeway Inn works for a lot of people. It's a practical answer for anyone who needs to be in this excellent location, in a reliable and clean room, for an unmatched price.
