My husband and i came here for dinner while staying in downtown la. Love the ambiance of this place. It is in part of an old church. The decor is fabulous. The menu is simple but great. My husband and i shared the bone in ribeye for 2. It was delicious.

There's really nothing to complain about here. Simple appetizers like Avocado salad are elevated by superior blue cheese crumbles. Scallops were flat-out great, wonderful flavor, carmelized exterior, barely cooked through. We split a pork entree that was very good. Yuzu custard was good, though not particularly exciting (and I love yuzu). Everything was really good, though the wow factor was limited.

The setting and wine list are another story. This deconsecrated church and courtyard make for a unique ambiance and really transform the downtown LA setting. The wine list has bargains at every price point. Bordeaux is represented with near steals between $100 and $200, but we opted for a first rate Arneis and a terrific (and rare) German Pinot noir which totaled $100 for the pair.

Redbird can be safely recommended to anyone who is comfortable with interesting, high quality ingredients prepared with great skill at this elevated price point. Those seeking fireworks may find it too expensive...unless the mine the wine list for values.

Not for everyone, but I'd surely be a regular were it in my 'hood.

On business travel and some friends recommended this restaurant. It was quaint and later in the evening the ceiling opened to enjoy a wonderful California evening. The drinks were unique and delicious. Bartenders were knowledgeable. Menu was unique and did not disappoint from apps to main course. Price point is high, but no would highly recommend.

Beautifully prepared and well-presented plates in a relaxed atmosphere with attentive yet unobtrusive service. Cocktails and wine list particularly good. This is not an expensive restaurant. To me expensive is when something costs a great deal of money and isn't worth it. Redbird is a restaurant apart. There is noticeable attention to detail and passion for the culinary art. You will pay a high price but it is worth every penny. A gem in downtown LA.

Ambiance has a nice vibe. Definitely want to be in the back versus the front section where the bar is located. The Somm was great and enjoyed talking to him even though we brought in our own..$32 corkage by the way. Our server encouraged us to share plates which was a great idea. The foie gras we ordered first which was our least favorite. The fruit component was rhubarb which was much too tart and overpowered the foie. I much prefer a huckleberry or something similar. The second course was the avocado salad with little gem romaine which was super fresh and tasty. Third course was the black ink squid pasta with lobster bits and uni butter....loved it. But the highlight of the night was the Red Wattle double pork chop! I had never heard of this heritage breed but it had much more flavor then a Berkshire and was expertly prepared. We loved it! We shared this and if ordered for one person you don’t need much at all before this, salad or something similar. Great dinner and highly recommend!
