“Potato chips and peanut butter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2012

The pulled pork sandwich and Smac and Cheese were so good after a long hot day. But the chocolate cake with peanut butter and potato chips was awesome. I'm not even a chip person. Sadly though, I was stuffed and didn't have any room for one of her donuts. Maybe next time.

“Wonderful Diner in Downtown Los Angeles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2012

On a three-week cross-country honeymoon trip, my husband and I found Nickel Diner using the "Flavor Town" app that shows the restaurants Guy Fieri has visited on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" in nearby locations. Since we were in Los Angeles for three days, we thought we would give this app a try, and we ended up finding this gem of a restaurant. Some of my favorite decorations were the multi-colored bottles of homemade sodas on the display case next to the register. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, and the prices are reasonable. Upon seeing pulled pork sandwiches on the menu, we didn't need to think twice. The "Spicy Pulled Pork" sandwiches were beyond delicious and gigantic. We had seen a video of a scrumptious-looking cake, called "S'more Cake," arriving at someone's table. After seeing that, I knew what I was going to have for dessert before even stepping foot inside Nickel Diner. My husband and I shared a piece of the S'more Cake, and when the waitress brought it to us, she put it down, pulled out a little blowtorch, and proceeded to toast the marshmallow that covered the outside of the cake. That made the diner that much more charming. I wish we could have come back for breakfast and dinner on another day! If we're ever in Los Angeles again, we are definitely going to stop by.

“Nickel Diner Lives Up to Its Reputation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

My husband and I stopped by the Nickel Diner while vacationing in Los Angeles. What helped us find the place was the line that had formed in front of other eager patrons. (That's always a good sign). We only waited for about 10 minutes and were seated by a very friendly waiter. The menu had a twist to so many common dishes which I loved. We ordered their homemade strawberry pop tart which was nothing short of amazing. The crust was buttery and the strawberry filling was phenomenal. Their biscuits didn't fall short either especially paired with their homemade pear preserves. We had the chilaquiles and the Sunny Side Cup ( poached egg on top of spinach and polenta covered by Parmesan cheese). It was delicious. They were all out of their maple bacon donuts but that will give us more of an incentive to come back real soon. Make sure you stop by if you're in LA, you won't regret it!

“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

The food was outstanding. It was well put together and thoughtful. It's best to go during the day time because the area is a bit sketchy and is near the skid row area of downtown. However, do not let that deter you! The mint lemonade is superb. Do not skip on desert the root beer creme brule and the sweet n salty cake.... Yum!

“Well put together food!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2012

The restaurant had the feel of an old school diner. The menu was an ecclectic mix with very tasty choices making it hard to decide. We ordered the chicken and dumplings and one of the burgers. The burger was flavorful, but the chicken and dumplings were inspired. The dish was one similar to chicken paprikash, it was served with a lemon cream and celery leaves that were to be added as the dish was eaten. These additions definitely added depth to this dish. You gotta check out this place!!!!
