We booked this boutique style hotel through on-line research and decided to give it a shot. The sunset watching crowd (to which we belong) raved about the roof top bar at the Casa Del Camino. Well, the sunsets were great and the mix of people was a bonus. Be there early if you want a seat or table.

But -If you don't want the high-style Laguna Beach crowd bar scene, just wall a half block to the Cress Street Beach. Watch the sun go down from the top of the cliff or walk down the steps to the beach. (From the hotel, you can walk to a number of small public beaches - some with really good tidal pools). Whale watching is a definite possibility from each spot. Bring good binoc's. I saw southbound grey's and some porpoises.

The standard room we had was VERY small - and overlooked the main street - things that might be a problem, if you plan to pack a lot of stuff and spend time in the room. But we don't stay in rooms much anyway. And we were soooo tired after hitting all art galleries and beaches, the noise faded into nothingness fast!. But go for the larger suites if you need the larger layout. They are bigger and some face the ocean. This is an older hotel and has been decorated with antiques in the rooms and hallways. The bed was very comfortable and the mattress was NOT antique. Newer LCD TV's would be a nice touch. We knew what we were getting when we booked the room. For Laguna beach, we got a good deal.

We really liked the free parking lot which is just across the street. You'll get a pass to hang on your mirror and with unlimited in and outs. Parking on the streets in Laguna Beach is expensive and sometimes hard to find. You could walk down to the Main Beach area via the main drag (PCH 1) with it's many restaurants and things to do. But the walk back to the hotel will be very uphill and might be a challenge to some. It's about 9 tenths of a mile.

We had excellent service from the front desk staff. Their recommendations were spot on and added much to our stay. They were quite customer oriented and effective at their job.

Now - for the best deal - their in-house restaurant, "K'ya Bistro" is absolutely the best in town. The specialize in "small plate" servings. (Hint - they aren't really that small). You will be very happy with the full-flavored, and varied choices. Grilled steaks, Lobster risoto, lamb chops were some of our favorites. Prices were 10 bucks for most main plates and salads were less than that. We had good service from the wait staff even though they were packed each of the three nights we dined there. Reservations are strongly suggested. The can get totally booked! (They don't do breakfast - but the hotel does provide a very nice complimentary spread in the lobby that took care of our needs just fine - consisting of real eggs, bacon and/or sausage, very fresh mellon, oatmeal, pastries and bagels, great coffee and incredibly fresh squeezed orange juice.

Give them a shot!

Have stayed here several times previously and we are pleasantly surprised every time! Alhough Hotel la Casa del Camino sits in perfect part of Laguna Beach, we find it hard to go elsewhere. Rooftop deck provides great ocean view, sunsets, party, fresh air, outdoor bar and great food. But K'ya, the bistro and bar downstairs on Coast Hwy offers a completely different feel and alternative menu (including $3 and $5 small plates that make a total meal and the food is creative and DELICIOUS). Great happy hour deals too. Then there's the comfortable & relaxing lobby, decorated w/ style and warmed by a big fireplace in front of which new friendships seem to form between strangers every 5 minutes. we met people from all over the US and around the world who we still consider friends. Rooms are small, but functional. Plumbing works great, beds comfortable. This particular visit we stayed in the "Glaceau" room, one of 12 "Surf Suites" remodeled and designed by different surf related companies, such as Billibong, Lost, Roxy, Rip Curl, etc. What a treat--we were upgraded on check-in by a friendly hotel staff member who recognized us from our last stay. Can't say enough great things about Hotel La Case del Camino!

I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight the friendly and helpful staff. Especially the front desk receptionist Norma. The hotel has a really good vibe to it, nice combination of old world charm and modern amenities. Started the day with a nice buffet style breakfast in the lobby area. The rooftop bar is a good place to relax at the end of the day.

Outside, Lobby, roof top, restaurant and location are awesome(period). This place is well visited by the locals and travelers. As for the rooms? It appears that the interior decorator was on crack or needed some! I could say much about the color schemes, but that would take away from the tiny, non-welcoming , uncomfortable, and uncoordinated decor and laid out living spaces. Yet, having stayed here for 5 nights I must admit that the positives out weigh the negative rooms. They could charge 3x the price if they simply hired professionals to face lift the rooms.

I had the pleasure of staying at this boutique hotel in Laguna Beach three times over the months of November and December. I absolutely fell in love with it and would not mind living in the suite I stayed in. My experiences with the front desk staff was nothing more than first class. The suite I stayed in was state of the art, with every electronic gizmo you could ask for in a hotel room, the art work and design were outstanding including the wine refrigerator, did I already say I would like to live there.

The Happy Hour at both the Rooftop and Kya are outstanding! The views from the Rooftop are stunning with wonderful staff that make you feel at home and offer blankets during breezy evening. The Happy Hour at Kya has the most delicious food offering in town with a dedicated following, so it is important to make reservations, yes, reservations for Happy Hour, very popular.

If you are going to make a trip to Laguna Beach I would highly recommend this hotel as the best value for your money with a warm, European feel!
