“Stay here if you have the opportunity....”

Wow!!! This is a beautiful hotel/lodge right on the golf course (which overlooks the ocean). The hotel is only a short drive from San Diego, but you feel like you are far, far away from "reality"! The property connects to Torrey Pines State Reserve... a perfect place to hike trails and go to the beach, or watch the sunset.

When you arrive you are greeted by some great people that really make you feel welcome. Almost every employee we came in contact with had been there for years... which says a lot for the property and its management. I was so impressed with the professionalism of the entire property. The spa is great. I had the best swedish massage I have had... and I have had many... including places like the Ritz properties. There is much attention to detail in the furniture and in the hallways. Just a beautiful property all around. We ate breakfast and lunch and both meals were incredible.

And.... I have to add. This is the cleanest hotel I have EVER been to. Spotless!!!

I can't say enough good things about this property. We are hoping to be back soon....

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with a palisade room OR an ocean view. Both are secluded and have peaceful vi...

Our family of four visited in January. We had a spectacular time. The spa is beautiful. The chef is outstanding. The room was lovely. We're golfers -- and did not play golf -- but the course is renown. The hiking trails are pristine and stunning. It was an A+ vacation experience.

We stayed here because it was the only way to book golf at Torrey Pines. Let me just say the $250 each (we walked) for golf is not worth it (we've played lots of expensive courses including Turnberry and Carnoustie and felt they were worth it). We played with 2 locals and they paid $61 each to give you an idea of how much they gouge out of towners.

Anyway, the Lodge is a lovely place...all that wood, very spacious rooms, great linens. We ate at the Grill and at AR Valentien and enjoyed the experiences. Quality and prestige all the way. I think charging the $22 daily for self parking is ridiculous given the room & meal costs.

It's great to walk over to the nature reserve and enjoy all th walking trails and go down to the beach. We strolled about for over 3 hours.

We stayed at the Lodge at Torrey Pines for our family spring break. We have 2 young boys ages 4 and 7. We splint our time between the Lodge and the Pacific Terrace Hotel. My husband and I found the Lodge's architecture to be spectacular. They spared no expense on this hotel. Despite being only 10 years old, the buildings are incredibly authentic craftsman architecture and furniture. The rooms are perfect - large and comfortable with fantastic bathrooms. The bedding is 5 star. The grounds are gorgeous - we don't golf but enjoyed the great pool, hot tub, and croquet. The restaurant was terrific and staff very accomodating for my boys - even remembered exactly what they like. There is a wonderful park/preserve north of the golf course which is perfect for walking. It connects to a gorgeous beach. All great things to say about the hotel other than it's a little bit isolated - but with a car you can get into La Jolla in 5 minutes and Pacific Beach in 10 minutes.

I have traveled many places but none come close to the Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. From the minute the doorman in livery opened the car door for me to the time he opened the door for me to drive away i was astounded by the friendliness, integrity, hospitality, and resounding warmness from the property, staff, and other guests. The Lodge at Torrey Pines was the greatest hotel i have ever stayed at and that is saying something considering I have stayed in thousands of hotels everywhere. I stayed at the Lodge for a week and a half and never wanted to leave the comfort for this resort. I golfed, swam, and played croquette while at the hotel and it never ceased to delight me.

Room Tip: Get a suite or king room, they were perfect for my family. But there really wasn't a bad room ch...

The Lodge at Torrey Pines is an award-winning luxury resort set atop the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, California. Awarded the AAA Five Diamond rating for 14 consecutive years, the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for six years in a row, and Travel + Leisure’s Top 50 Hotels in the United States and Canada, The Lodge provides stunning views of the world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean and endless opportunities for guests to enjoy San Diego’s warm climate – from outdoor dining and relaxing at the spa to hiking, golfing and more. The Lodge is modeled after the famed Gamble and Blacker houses in Pasadena – two of the finest examples of early 1900s Craftsman-style architecture. Its post-and-beam construction features a natural color palette, graceful wing-like rooflines, shingle and sandstone-bluff exteriors, clinker-brick masonry, rich woodwork and natural stone surfaces. Arrivals are greeted by doormen attired in kilted Scottish dress, while inside are 170 spacious guest rooms and suites designed for supreme comfort. The Lodge’s signature restaurant A.R. Valentien – rated Best Hotel Restaurant in the West by Sunset Magazine in 2015 – is a destination for fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Artisan Table Dinners highlighting farm-to-table fare in a communal setting are offered weekly, while Executive Chef Jackson headlines The Lodge’s annual Celebrate the Craft event, one of Southern California’s premier showcases for regionally grown ingredients and innovative cooking and winemaking. For a more casual vibe, The Grill at The Lodge offers a full menu of favorites whether dining indoors or on the patio, while its bar is an ideal gathering place after a day on the course. The Spa at Torrey Pines features signature treatments themed around the beauty and purity of the Pacific coastline. This 9,500 square foot space uses botanical- and marine-based extracts from European product lines Phytomer, SkinCeuticals, Farmhouse Fresh and NV Organics to replenish and restore the body and mind. Additional features of The Lodge include a croquet lawn, heated outdoor pool and cabanas, whirlpool, outdoor terrace with chaise lounges, hiking at the adjacent Torrey Pines State Reserve, a fitness center and the Scripps Library, a public space featuring a pool table, board games and more. Adjacent to The Lodge, the Torrey Pines Golf Course is an iconic 36-hole course that hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Farmers Insurance Open. Whether on the North Course or South Course, our guests have the opportunity to play where the pros play with the stunning La Jolla coastline as a backdrop. Nearby attractions include downtown La Jolla and Del Mar, Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the La Jolla Playhouse performing arts center and the Museum of Contemporary Art. During spring and summer, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club entices visitors with the thrill of live racing, while a popular year-round choice is the Torrey Pines State Reserve, a magnificent 2,000 acres of protected rare Torrey Pine trees featuring pristine beaches and eight miles of trails; The Lodge offers complimentary guided hikes throughout the preserve daily. The Lodge is located just 15 miles north of the San Diego International Airport and downtown San Diego. ... more   less
