We had cold soba with tempura which taste good but We also tried stew pork. It's is very delicious. The pork is soft and tender, the meat are well marinated. You must give it a try.

I prefer grilled meat and fresh local vegetables than buckwheat noodles here. I came here by car my driven. As I regretted not to drink here, I will refrain from driving at the next time.

Visited Kawakamien because of good comment. Thought it was a traditional restaurant because of its name and food. Yet, it was a modern restaurant.
We tried the famous cold soba with prawn. Delicious. Around 2000yen with 2 big tempura prawn and vegetable.
Other food such as tofu of three types, vegetable dishes were also good.
We waited for around 15 minutes at 2pm for the table. It was just fee minutes to walk to shops and walking street Ginza.

We ended up eating here basically as it was only one of the few places open after 8pm. L.O 9.00pm

The town is dead in the evening after about 6pm (well certainly in November it is)

Food is good and very tasty. We had a number of great Japanese dishes. The deep fried shrimp and asparagus spring roll was particularly tasty, although should probably be served with a sweet chilli sauce as opposed to tomato ketchup.

Staff are friendly and speak English. Also menu is available in English.

The only annoying things is they have this habit that I have only ever come across in Japan where they will make you wait for a table even though tables are available. I sat and looked at several empty tables included the one we ended up sitting at for five minutes. It was already set, so did not need to be cleared or wiped down before we were eventually seated

Restaurant also takes credit card which is not always the case in Karuizawa

Overall though good dining experience
