“Comfortable”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Best part was the check in and check out time was very flexible. Located just off the highway but feels like you are in the middle of the desert. Nice one bedroom cabin with nice decor but to keep with the theme I will lose the kitchen table and replace it with the wooden bench. The owner is very friendly and the cottage is charming. Kitchenette is well equipped but needs slight improvement. The stove took a long time to heat up and the pans to make eggs were old and warped.

“Desert hideaway”
Reviewed 15 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Perfect little getaway right next door to Joshua Tree National Park. All the comforts of home. Even an old fashioned wood burning stove inside ( in winter you will need it!) Great for kids too with plenty of space out back to run around. The owner is very nice and even dropped by to give us some firewood. I highly recommend this cabin as a romantic getaway as well.

“Two and a half weeks of bliss.”
Reviewed 10 May 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Is there a more perfect little bungalow in which to spend a couple of weeks in Joshua Tree? Don’t think so! From the cowboy nicknacks, to the art photographs, to the comfortable bed, to the fully appointed kitchen, the place is just right for one or two people looking for a home away from home.

Oh, and the shady veranda facing a gorgeous expanse of white sand interrupted by sagebrush, cactus, creosote bush, and traversed by the local resident jack rabbit and desert tortoise. Picture this: after a day exploring Joshua Tree National Park, sitting with feet up, a shot of tequila on ice with a twist of lime, the grill fired up for dinner, and doing nothing but watching the desert shadows stretch until they are gone. Two and a half weeks of bliss.

Mustang Cabin is part of “Rattler Ranch,” an oasis of three bungalows, a vintage Airstream trailer, and a small solar array plunked down in the desert at the edge of the park. Your reach it by a sand road about ½ mile from Rt 62. Although the title, “Rattler Ranch” is a reference to rattle snakes (I saw hide nor hair of any), I have my suspicion that it is really named for the rattling of your car or truck as you drive the “washboards” on the hard sand!

Diane, the proprietor, couldn’t have been more helpful and welcoming on arrival (and then she happily made herself scant). If you need anything, she is there, but she respects your privacy. If something is amiss, not to worry. I noticed a lack of hot water in the kitchen sink. There appeared a team of plumbers and electricians in a blink. Fixed. Done. And all the other systems worked flawlessly for the duration.

After a long day exploring in Joshua Tree National Park, coming home to Mustang Cabin was an immense pleasure. I had a perfect stay and hope to return.
