“Fun but lacking in some respects”

We decided to take a three day jaunt into a more desert-like environment as part of our 8 day stay on the west coast (most of it in LA). This place served as a the 'hub' for our explorations in Joshua Tree town and, in particular, for in Joshua Tree National Park. 'Señorita' is not quite as removed from traffic as we had hoped (as road noise is pretty apparent) but it is nonetheless planted comfortably a hillside overlooking town, as part of the Rattler Ranch complex. Proprietor Diane has apparently done a number of upgrades to the property in recent years and, aesthetically, it has appeal to the eye. We found the bedding to be very comfortable and the kitchen to be well-set up for putting together meals. Most of the flooring is tiled (read, can feel cold). There is a wood stove in the dining area, some larger pieces of wood are available for guests to burn and it appears guests can scour the area around the home for smaller dead wood for kindling (much is readily available). The area is very different from other getaways we have taken, so we enjoyed exploring this area. Diane also offered some very helpful tips about places to eat and area 'must sees'.

However, some other features made our stay in Señorita a bit awkward. In particular, seating throughout 'Señorita' is difficult: hard metal seats in the dining area, metal chairs on the patio and an oversized chair and sofa in the living room area. Reading-friendly lighting in those spaces is limited. Thus, spending time in those spaces left us wanting for a place to comfortably hang out.

This option for travelers is recommended with the above caveat in mind.

I'm sorry your experience didn't meet your expectations.

I wish you had let me know when you were here about issues with firewood and lighting for reading.....I would have taken care of it. I would also have given you some cushions for the metal chairs!

The reason for the tile floors & metal furniture is that it is extremely hot & dry here most of the year, and that is what works best - also easier to sweep out all the desert sand.

“Perfect for Joshua Tree”
Reviewed 11 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

A friend and I were only able to stay overnight, but I look forward to going back to spend a few days there - just to relax and enjoy the quirkiness of the cabin that matches the peace and serenity of Joshua Tree. The setting is fantastic, the night skies were great, and the sunrise in the morning was breathtaking - and it was quiet during the entire stay. Diane made arriving and leaving very easy - and again - look forward to staying there soon.

“Quail watching heaven!”
Reviewed 3 May 2012 for a stay in April 2012

My wife and I stayed in the Casita de la Senorita cabin for a quiet four days together. The cabin was comfortable and pleasant with a kitchen that had absolutely everything we needed.

If you are someone who appreciates art you will no doubt enjoy the ambiance even more than we did.

We thoroughly enjoyed the patio in the morning and evening. We had all of our meals outside. While there is not much of a view from the back patio, it was still restful and pleasant. We cooked hot dogs one night using the clever, artfully designed fire drum and we cooked delicious ribeye steaks using the provided barbecue. Firewood is provided but we brought our own because we will sit by the fire for hours. If you want to use the barbecue you will need to bring your own charcoal.

The cabin was clean and neat and quiet while we were there. The only snivel is that you can hear the trucks and motorcycles on the highway when you bed down at night but I don't know of anyplace on the north side of the National Park where you can avoid that.

The most enjoyable part of the evening was shortly before sunset. We heard the unmistakeable sound of a covey of quail approaching. We went out on the front porch and watched over 50 quail coming from all directions, stopping to peck at seeds, taking dust baths and gradually working their way in to join the group roosting in the fan palm. It was beautifully arresting and served to highlight the peaceful evening. We look forward to experiencing that again.

“Perfect Romantic Getaway!!!”
Reviewed 2 January 2012 for a stay in December 2011

This house was lovely, so sweetly designed with everything a guest could ever want! The host was a pleasure to deal with, thoughtfully supplying her cabin with every amenity to make us feel right at home. Located a short 10 min drive from Joshua Tree town and national park, it was the perfect base from which to explore everything, I look forward to staying there again in the future.
