This is not what you’d expect from a Kimpton; I appreciate that it’s a remodeled motel but expected the remodel to have included some small upgrades to make our stay comfortable. For example, the windows are not soundproofed. This place is right next to the freeway (and train tracks) so you really hear the noise, especially in the early morning. The other needed upgrade was to heating/air conditioning. It was freezing in our room but the noisy heating unit clanked, rattled and groaned all night despite not heating the room at all. It was 42 degrees in the morning which is not OK.
On the plus side, staff were friendly and the decor is nicely done. Rooms were not very clean but weren’t gross.

SoCalLawLady,

Thank you for the review and sorry the Goodland did not live up to the Kimpton standard. We will be sure to have the engineering team take a look at the heater, as what you described is not normal. We will share your review with the team as they love to hear how they are doing. Rest assured, we will get these items corrected and hope to see you back at the Goodland.

Thank You

A one-night stay in a courtyard deluxe. Reception friendly and efficient at a very busy time. Room big enough for a short stay. Robes, extra pillow, extra blanket all welcome. Amenities on the low end-when did shower caps go extinct? Soaps, shampoo, conditioner, lotion too big to take home (a plus), but multi-person use (a minus--yukky). Bed very comfortable--plus. Room air conditioning (minus) unlike anything seen since 1960 roadside motels. Incredibly noisy! And don't get me started on the one next door--even noisier if you can imagine. I didn't know airconditioners had scraping ball bearings The resort fee ridiculous. The rest of the bill looks like a California utility bill--extra 20% of nickels and dimes. But the state employee retirement benefits are GREAT, I'm sure! The biggest minus, and something that the hotel can't control, was the guest behavior. The dogs, people shouting, doors slamming did not settle down until well after midnight. Altogether a disappointment. Glad to be gone.

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms offer some garden views, and on the ground floor, some private patio space. The other rooms open onto the parking lot.

WanderJenn,

Thank you for the review and sorry to hear of the disappointment. We will be sure to have the engineering department take a look at the A/C units as the sound you describe is not normal. Again thank you for the feedback as it gives us an opportunity to continue to improve the Goodland.

Got a great recommendation from our son to stay here while we were evacuated from our home in Carpinteria. Two plugs in the room didn't work, the heater didn't work and they allow dogs in the hotel, but don't keep up after dog poop. We also had a mandatory $25.00 wifi fee we weren't told about until we check-out! for $225 a night during a crisis, to have all those little things take place just really made it a bad stay. We told the staff about the poop and the plugs, nothing was ever done about it.

Wish the staff was more helpful. We didn't have the help that was necessary to justify paying over $200 for a hotel? /fancy motel? We would have stayed at a nicer place who could help us more if we had to do over.

The property itself was excellent; front desk, grounds, ambiance and my room. I was quoted $159/night and my credit card was hit for $258 and change. I called and was told, after taxes my total would be around $208 and the extra $50.00 for so-called "incidentals".

It's now be over a week since my stay, and I STILL haven't received my $50.00.
Iv'e been fortunate enough to stay in some excellent properties all over the world and have never been jerked around as I have from the accounting department. Tacky, unprofessional, won't ever stay here again.
