Great town to go explore. Be sure to visit the grave yard on the hill and walk a few of the streets to check out the cool architecture of the homes .

Has several good restaurants and Ferndale Repertory Theatre puts on wonderful theatre! The graveyard is very interesting and has fabulous view from the top Some quaint places to stay. Several films have been shot from this location.

We love exploring Main Street. The Blacksmith Shoppe, Golden Gait Mercantile and the Museum are places we visit over and over again. There's always something new to find in the Victorian Village of Ferndale.

We were looking for a B&B in the Eureka area and when I found one in Ferndale, they hostess told me that the weekend I was coming in was the Ferndale Bargain Lover's Weekend.
If you love garage sales, and I do, this is THE place you want to come. During the Ferndale BLW the whole town - yes - the WHOLE town, gets involved in the sale.
We arrived on Thursday night and our hostess told us that the Early Bird sale would be on Friday morning. Another family came into our B&B after midnight; and they were out shopping by 6:00 am, before we got up - our hostess told us that they come from San Jose every year just for the sales.
So, after a leisurely breakfast, my wife and I drove toward the downtown, but quickly parked because there were at least 10 homes in a 20 home stretch that were open for the early-bird sale. We spent about 2-3 hours enjoyed browsing, bargain hunting and purchasing some items; I was glad we brought our mini-van instead of our sedan. We probably went to 30-40 places on the early bird day.
On Saturday, we started earlier, and the mainstreet was already packed by 8:00 am and finding a place to park was difficult. This time there were many more places open - we heard there were around 150. We stayed along the main street and the adjacent side streets and easily spent 4 hours wandering and buying.
The items range from general junk (and some was really bad - like it looked more like a trash dump) to some great home made jellies and breads, arts/crafts items and some great furniture and antiques. Something for everyone.
Several places had non-profit groups that not only sold items, but also some great chili and other food items. The local merchants downtown also put tables outside their establishments with sale items.
We went back on Sunday, but there were not near as many people selling as on Saturday; but you could get some great deals; some items we were looking at they dropped the price greatly; or in two cases, just gave us the items.
If you don't like garage sales, stay away on the Bargain Lover's weekend; but do come back and enjoy the great Victorian town - the architecture is great and well maintained throughout the city; not just the main street but throughout the town.
If you DO like garage sales - check the calendar for this year and make sure that you come. I recommend coming on Friday, as there were many vendors and it wasn't near as crowded as Saturday.

Architecture is really impressive and speaks to the history of the area and the people here are super friendly. It has small town charm in a beautiful area.
