We found the resort to meet our needs very well. There are three "phases" in this resort. We stayed at Villas on the Green. This is phase 2 of the development. The Mountain villas are the newest. Our two bedroom unit (a 1 bedroom suite with a full kitchen connected to a standard 1 bedroom unit (i.e lockoff) with a limited kitchen) was very spacious. We needed an accessible unit and only the "deluxe" 1 BR side is accessible. Note that all accessible units are on the second floor which, in reality, is the walk in, ground floor level. There are no elevators, so if you need an accessible room, you will need a second floor unit.
Both kitchens were well stocked, with the full kitchen having an oven. We cooked a couple of breakfasts and could have done more had we wanted to. There were also some shared barbeques just outside the unit that appeared to be very nice. We toured the Mountain villas and found them equally spacious, albeit a bit newer.
We played the longer of the two golf courses on site. Don't be fooled by the length (3900 yards). While there are no par 5's, the par 4's and the par 3's presented a good test of golf. The second course is all par 3's and is considered the "beginners" course. The price was very reasonable and there were clubs for rent, both standard and deluxe. Overall a nice course. One note of caution, some of the parking is along the course (protected by a fence) but is is still possible to hit one into the parking lot. The area of concern is well signed but just beware when parking at the units.
There are multiple pools and recreation areas on site. We didn't use the pools or rec areas but we saw lots of families with children using them. The one thing to note is that there is only 1 "adult" exercise room which was a bit of a walk from the villas on the green.
We went into San Diego a couple of times during out stay. It took us about 30 minutes to get into to see the Mission and another 10 minutes to Old Town. If you want to see anything in San Diego, a car is a necessity (but this is SoCal so that should not be surprising.)
The restaurant on site was above average for a resort. We enjoyed our meal there. We also went into Escondido to several restaurants that we excellent - Brigantine for Seafood and Joe's on Grand for Italian.
Service was great at the resort and everyone was very helpful. We had a few service calls and they rapidly responded. The resort is well maintained.
Overall, we the resort was exactly what we were looking for an I would recommend it highly.

we stayed at this resort in April 2011. It is very quiet and relaxing. Our room was spacious and updated. The staff is friendly and attentive. There is a golf course on site and a restaurant. There are several things to do including fishing in the pond and enjoying a weekly farmers market on premises. The show at the Welk theatre was entertaining. We visited a couple of wineries in the area and took a bus trip to a nearby casino. The drive into San Diego was about 30 minutes, we visited the harbor and Old Town. Hwy 101 was scenic and gave us access to serval beaches.

We had been hearing about the Welk Resort Escondido's extensive renovations; we live nearby and were invited to visit the resort for a 90-minute presentation in exchange for a 3-night trip to Northern California. We arrived early and had breakfast at the Canyon Grille, which was good and reasonably priced. Our tour/presentation was scheduled for 11:30, and we arrived 10 minutes early as instructed, but we were not greeted by our "presentation professional" until noon. When he did greet us, he pretty much ignored me and focused on my husband, and didn't even apologize for being 1/2 hour late. We told him we had another appointment in the afternoon, so we needed to be finished by 1 p.m. as scheduled. He rudely said "well the clock starts now, so maybe you want to come back another time, because it's going to take at least 90 minutes." So it was our problem that he was late? Things pretty much went downhill from there. We were genuinely curious about what Welk had to offer, and the resort itself is beautiful, but the whole timeshare sales pitch is incredibly aggressive and very predatory. They don't answer questions directly about things like protection from increases in maintenance fees and they put you through what's akin to an interrogation about your own finances and lifestyle over an agonizing 2 hours our more. It's kind of like the old slimy car sales pitch when you ask about the total cost of the car: Well how much can you pay every month? When they finally do tell you how the pricing and "points system" works, (sort of) you learn that they are charging people nearly 15 percent interest in order to finance these timeshares. It's crazy, and it's sad that some people seemed to be falling for the trap. They totally pressure you to "sign today" or you will lose your opportunity, ever, ever, ever, to buy into this Welk program in the future. They even make you sign a paper that says that! Twice. They want you to buy in without disclosing the fine print or details, which is just crazy and very frightening. On top of it all, the sales guy was obnoxious and could not even do simple math. When we finally were able to escape and recover our $40 deposit for the privilege of considering buying or visiting here, we were more than convinced that whatever the Welk timeshare team is selling, we're not buying. If they ask you to tour their lovely property, beware!

We just got back from a week long stay here in a two bedroom. We stayed in Stardust #381 & 382. My wife loved this place. It was quiet, plenty to do for the kids and clean. The staff was great and we just can't say enough about the rooms. Very comfortable and plenty of room. We felt just like we where in our own home.

The views where amazing and the amenities where great. It is a little off the beaten path but that is one of the great things we loved about the Welk resorts. You feel like you are not stuck in the hustle bustle of a city. You truly feel like you have escaped to a real vacation.

Any down sides? Well, the resort kept leaving annoying messages on the phone to remind us of theater events or other events but that was not too bad. We also had a MINOR ant problem in both rooms. You have to keep the kitchen immaculate or the little ant trails will start forming over night. It was not a major issue if you keep everything clean but one little spec of leftover crumb will call in the ants.

Other than that, beautiful, comfortable, clean and spacious. We will definitely be back.

Short drive to Zoo and wild animal part and sea world. Don;t stay here if you plan going to Disneyland everyday though. The drive is too long. About 90 minutes.

Room Tip: I liked ground level with a walk out yard. I could hear people above me in the morning but it was n...

I flew into San Diago to pick up my mother who live's with my sister. She is 93 years old but still able to get around nicely. I needed a two bedroom condo for my wife and myself and a bedroom for my mother. I was pleasently surprised to find the 2 bedroom condo perfect in every way!! We stayed in Broadway units in unit 238. The condo was quite spacious and had everything you could possible want. My mother is in a walker so steps would be quite hard on her but the unit had a side entrance that allowed for her to use the walker directly to the condo without steps. The checkin went well but could not use the condo until 4pm and not a minute sooner. The grounds were perfectly kept and flowers everywhere! If your into golf they have two golf courses within the compond mostly par 3's. The bathroom were great and large with his and her's sinks as well as a large garden tub with a great shower head. We shopped at Von's in Escondito for grocery's which nearby. The resort has BBQ's outside and they are kept clean and scrapped. If your out in the "hill country" try Lawrence Welk Resort you wont be disapointed..

Room Tip: we stayed in the Gypsy units
