“Great Complex”

Previous reviews have really covered the shortcomings and beautiful design of this complex. Here are my two cents.
Unit: My husband and I used this as a private weekend getaway. Thanks to previous reviews, we prepared ourselves by packing all of our own food and entertainment. We stayed the weekend in the Bachelor's Pad. Gorgeous. The kitchen was surprisingly functional with a roomy fridge, induction stove, and microwave. Included plastic cups to bring our wine to the dipping pool we used the pool at night. It was a perfect temperature.
Hospitality: The room welcomed us with a bottle of wine and some light music playing. A sandstorm blew threw and we received a heads-up text from the manager. On our last day the manager offered us a late check out in which we totally took them up on.
Suggestions: The unit was cooled by a wall unit A/C. When we got to the room, it was HOT, and it took about 24 hours for the room to cool down to about 80 degrees. It would've been nice to arrive to a cooled room, but maybe it was our mistake for visiting in July? The windows are the highlight of this room, but they were streaky/dirty. Also, update the CD player to a bluetooth speaker.

“Unique and spectacular, a really memorable experience!”

Sadly I only stayed at the Lautner for 1 night and quite briefly.

But it is a spectacular place and really very beautiful.

Despite being 65 odd years odd, it hasn't aged at all and appears surprisingly modern.

Staying here is staying in an architectural piece of history.

I should add that the host is efficient and attentive and the property is impeccable in terms of its maintenance and cleanliness.

I would very happily stay here again.

This is a must for fans of mid-century modern and Lautner.
The property is fantastic and the experience mind blowing.
Just don't expect all the services than a traditional hotel has to offer.
Breakfast is pathetic so organise your meals ahead of time, go to Palm Springs or do groceries shopping.
I would return without a doubt.

“Amazing location and vibe, but nickled and dimed”

Let's get the basics out of the way
Amazing mid-century vibe
Quiet, clean, out of the way
Beautiful furnishings and great little sundeck area.
Well landscaped
fun retreat
Cute and VERY functional kitchen
We never knew there were other guests except their cars were out front.

The negatives:
If you are there for just two nights (the minimum) do not expect room cleaning service. This was not made clear in advance. Even if it had been, for the price they charge it is not acceptable. (A theme that you can see through out my critique)
You are allotted one Kuerig pod per person per night. Extra pods are $3 each. Seriously? I understand someone must have cleaned out a room of the Keurig pods, but one cup? In LA area?
The breakfast for two mornings for two people was two Biscotti and two packs of instant oatmeal. That is total, not per day. A packet of oatmeal makes for a fine breakfast, but one Biscotti?

There is one set of mini bottles of very pleasant cosmetic products for the two days. If two people are washing their hair twice, there isn't enough shampoo. With no room cleaning, it doesn't get replenished.

We were a bother and sister traveling and they were going to provide us with an inflatable mattress as there is only one bed. To receive an email the morning of check in that the mattress was punctured and one of us would have to sleep n the sofa doesn't seem like a good solution. There is a Target and a Bed Bath and Beyond. Solve it. If you don't solve it, offer a reduction.

The sofa, while cool looking does not make a comfortable bed. As it turned out I had an inflatable queen-sized mattress in my car. We asked for an extra set of sheets, but were told a queen would not fit in. It would have if we moved the furniture. One sheet, is not enough for a sofa. Please provide two sheets, even if it is for the sofa and not an air mattress

Materials state that there is limited WiFi and we encourage you to unplug. Nice attempt to make lemonaid out of lemons. In room 4, there is no WiFi. Spend the money for a signal booster (if there even is a signal, if not get WiFi)

Check in time is stated as 2. We received an email saying 3, they were allowing previous guests to stay until noon. We had an afternoon wedding to attend, and were eventually told the room could be made ready at two (we received this at 1 pm). We arrived to an un-air conditioned room. The materials in the room ask you to turn off the A/C and call an hour ahead for caretaker to turn the A/C on. Clearly that hadn't been done for us, as the room was really hot

On the whole this is a really cool property and was wonderful to spend time in the Lautner structure. The Steel Beams and concrete walls were wonderful to watch in the changing light. The cactus garden is super cool This would be a great retreat, but given the money, this whole experience be handled a lot better

“Lost on the Unsophisticated”

If you're looking for crash pad for the night, this isn't for you.
If you have the ability to appreciate an architectural wonder that has been marvelously restored with elegance and an acute eye for period aesthetic, then this place is a "must".
Nights here aren't a stay - they're an experience, with no detail missed. The rooms are oases of privacy, but built in such a way that you feel a part of the open desert landscape.
I was lucky enough to see three of the four units, and stayed in Unit 1, which was my favorite of them all.
The grounds are equally fantastic and private and inviting all at the same time. There is no doubt that I will stay here again.
