Description: Jake’s Del Mar brings new American cooking to the edge – to the water’s edge that is. Located right on the beach in Del Mar Chef Duvinh Ta uses fresh, seasonal products as the inspiration for updating classic preparations of fresh fish, shellfish and premium meats. The lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch menus showcase clean, eclectic flavors and local, sustainable products that are complemented by Jake’s jaw dropping location on the sand. The nightly Chef’s Special is a seasonal creation that features the best seafood, meats and produce available and through the Legacy of Aloha program, Jake’s donates a portion the proceeds from the Chef’s Special to the San Diego Food Bank.

What a great place for dinner and sunset view. The restaurant offered a wonderful menu and wine selection and fun wait staff. An impromptu volleyball game on the beach, sunset and the sound of the ocean made a perfect evening! I highly recommend Jake's.

It's hard to get a reservation during racetrack season. We secured a table and promptly got table 39; that is the code word for sitting next to the service station so we had no view of the ocean and had waiters, bus boys, and waitresses lingering near the table from time to time. Other than that, this was a very good visit. Lobster Tails with a great Cauliflower puree; asparagus, and a very good crab cake as an appetizer. The wine is expensive but there is a good selection. Shawnee was our waitress and she was very good; we recommend her. We will go back but will not sit at that table again. So, make your reservations well in advance. And, of yeah, the valet parking is very small; we had to park across the street; you pay in advance; $18 for 3 hours...what the heck...it is the beach!

The views are awesome. Beach Volleyball, lights on ocean. Awesome sunset, terrific staff, excellent food. Only difficulty is parking.

There is "eating" and then there is "dining".....Jake's is a perfect venue for relaxing, enjoying the ocean waves, and having wonderfully fresh seafood prepared perfectly.
Dinner, here, was a combination of excellent service (with recommendations...from Trey) and superb seafood....the scallops seared perfectly, the seafood stew with great taste (and perfect for dunking those fresh-baked rolls). Appetizers were an excellent start, great creativity. Next door is a great restaurant for lunch on the beach (Poseidon); but if you want that "dining experience" at the ocean....Dinner at Jake's is the way to go.

Can easily see why this is one of the top restaurants in San Diego. Incredible views from most of the tables. Bar scene was pretty incredible too. Lots of movers and shakers in this crowd and fun watching them "work" the bar and the room.

Our meals were fantastic; especially the fish, but I have to say that the vegetarian pasta dish was one of the best. Calamari was also one of the best ever.

Mixed drinks very good. Mai tai's very strong! Service throughout was outstanding.

Prices are what you would expect ($24-48 per plate), so if you are looking for a bargain, go somewhere else.

Use the valet parking as finding a street spot can be tough; although, we did get lucky and found one a block down.
