We had a great lunch, visiting for the first time since it reopened. Great bread as usual. The meals were very good, Ravioli, Reuben Sandwich, Crab Cocktail and the deserts very good as well, Warm Butter Cake and Bombolini.

Original Joe's was perfect for our group of 8 for lunch. We were not the only ones thinking along those lines. There were lots of groups and family parties. The menu has something for everyone with no surprises -- no exotic fusion combos here. I had the ravioli with meat sauce and it was good. My friend's Crab Louis looked really fresh and crunchy. We shared some warm butter cake and that was delicious. The portions are huge, especially the desserts. The service was top notch. The hostess made sure we had water and extra silverware. She took our pictures and generally made us feel welcome and unrushed. The decor and the surroundings were very comfortable and it was a plus to have the contiguous parking lot. The only negative (and for me it was a big one) was they don't take reservations for groups of fewer than 18. I was making the arrangements and I was worried that we would have a long wait so I had everyone arrive at 11:30 AM for lunch. We were one of the first groups to be seated. A short time later, the restaurant was almost full. The waiting area is large and comfortable but it's nice to be seated at a pre-arranged time.

When we lived in the city we would eat at Joe's of westlake for every celebration or just to have a great meal. Our favorite dishes were the veal scaloppine sac stake Ala Bruno or the cheese burger. I'm happy to say the new owners have done a good job of keeping the charm and food great. We had the veal scaloppine sac and chicken Alfredo, The service is excellent and it's always busy we waited 45 min .When we left the wait was 2 hours..

Original Joe's of Westlake is a San Francisco institution that had been redone to a very chic retro vibe. This was the kind of place that families came generation after generation for special events. It's a good mix of old and young, hip and working class. The food is very classic, unchanged mostly since its heydays.
The wait is long, on average 30-45 minutes but you can get a drink at the bar while you wait or just order food from there. Opt for the counter, wait the full 45 and get a proper seat.
The food is no frills, no fusion, no foam anything. Just classics served very straight forward.
They bring you some good bread and cold butter as soon as you sit down.
The prime rib (order it bleeding rare) is quite delicious as are the ribs.
No kids menu but you can order a side and that should be plenty for the little ones.
Leave room for dessert. Very sweet but delicious.
If you are in the mood for classics done in a non ironic, old school, classic way, and this isn't out of the way for you, you'll enjoy the lively ambience and solid service.
