Went for lunch today for my 4th visit as guests of friends who have been eating here very regularly for years.
I love this place.
Strangely the sign over the door says Tai Yuan .....? But the address is correct.
I think the comments of other reviewers are probably fair but have personally never tried the restrooms.
Some of the dishes are really excellent .. Try the Crab balls with a whole shell-on crab claw inside. The most delicious but simple honeycomb taro dumplings, deep fried.
I would also highly recommend the chicken feet as well as the most wonderful tripe dish. The tripe cut so finely it was like a strange flower or something from the ocean . Delicate and delicious.
A plate of simple chow mien was clean and perfectly cooked , the noodles very fine and Al dente.... Just a few green parts of scallions and a very few bean sprouts. Delicious.
We also had a deep fried Chinese doughnut mixture wrapped in a type of wonton wrapper... Rice flour and water ? Texturally exciting.
At the next table a couple were eating lobster with noodles thalooked wonderful.
We drank a delicious black tea flavoured with Chrysanthemum flowers. Strangely delightful.
Can't wait for my next visit.

I've been there many times and never had a bad experience. The food is great with service to match. There's plenty of parking now that the bowling alley is closed. The only bad thing is that it gets REALLY crowded at times, but that's a good signal that its the place to go, They have a variety of tea's to choose from. The atmosphere is comfortable and typical of this type of restaurant. One of my go to places.

yes, i had to say it - but i will start with the food.

the restaurant is located in an old strip mall in southern daly city, very typical strip mall of the area, nothing out of the ordinary. this is daly city so expect some fog and cooler than your average california weather.

i was there for dim sum, and the dim sum is good, nothing extraordinary mind you. you do get four instead of three shrimp dumplings in an order, but they are smaller, still if you are strictly a numbers person you will like you got more. the desserts are very tasty, the shrimp well cooked and good - the sauces are served rather piece meal so you may need to make sure you get plenty to start.

once begin, the food comes fast (it is dim sum after all), as i said it is good, nothing terribly special on the dim sum side, cannot say if that is the case on the ala carte side.

the bathrooms are dreadful, and you feel dingy after going there, so if you can please stay away from the bathrooms, it will make your meal much more pleasant.

Tai Wu – Mr. Fong’s Restaurant

We had a “celebration of life” dinner at Tai Wu Restaurant for a large group of about 90 people after a recent funeral. We were pleasantly surprised with the food.

Our banquet of 10 tables was served 9 or 10 dishes which included pork, chicken, fish, beef, vegetables, noodles and rice. We thought the food was very good as everything we ordered was very fresh and flavorful. The service was very good as well, with plenty of wait staff for our large group who were all attentive, polite and helpful. There was also plenty of parking in close proximity as well.

One observation that was made was regarding the restrooms. I know Chinese restaurants are notorious for never being very clean; however, the men’s room at Tai Wu was absolutely disgusting. No need to explain in detail but they were in major need of attention. Scary!

With that said, we thought the food was 4 stars out of 5, but wondering nervously how clean the kitchen might be after seeing the restrooms. So, being generous and hoping it was just a bad night for clean ups I’m giving them a 3.
