“Bring your ear and nose plugs!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2012

This property looked cute online, but.... It has paper thin walls. We heard every coming and going, conversation, and car/truck that drove by. Talk about no sleep! We also upgraded to a room with a fireplace - big mistake! The rooms smells like old gas stoves that stink. We were scared that we were going to soak that smell into our skin and clothes. The shower heads are from the 1950's, low, but work ok. The amenities in the bathrooms are 'Breck'....didn't know they still made that stuff.
As for the breakfast, these people have apparently not heard of the health movement. Our choices were full fat bagels with full fat cream cheese, full fat banana bread and then full fat muffins. They also cut up apples and oranges. Coffee or tea, with you guessed it...full fat milk. Not even a latte option which is so easy now. No cereal or yogurt or fresh berries. Virtually, no effort into breakfast. The inn also has a happy hour in which they serve sherry. Sherry?? In the middle of the wine country?? What is wrong with this picture?
The best thing about this inn is the location, but there are plenty of other options right around this one.

Room Tip: Choosing a good room won't work here.

We booked a room, last minute, at Fireplace Inn because we decided to join sister-in-law and husband for a get-away to Carmel and this is where they were staying. Great central location in the village - walking distance to all. Nice front desk staff in very small or cozy office. Unfortunately we got the front, older room- while spacious it was very stinky. It had a musty smell the whole time we were there. Bought a couple candles to burn while we were there but it obviously didn't fix the problem. The room # 37 is just old and worn. Carpets and furniture also old and worn. My husband's biggest disappointment, other than the smell- which he said you get used to it after awhile - was that the fireplace was not wood burning. But I believe there are few places left in Carmel with real wood burning fireplaces. Carmel is beautiful so we tried to spend little time in the room.

Access to rooms is hazardous. Fireplace/heater not worth beans.
Electrical outlets dysfunctional.
Showers made for hobbits who
Want to wash their feet with only cold water...takes forever to heat. Kneel on
All fours to operate video. Views non-

This is a cottage-style collection of rooms in a quiet neighborhood. Very friendly staff, nice continental breakfast buffet (rolls, juice. etc)/ Most rooms have fireplaces, and they permit dogs in certain rooms for an extra fee.The facility rambles over uneven ground and parking is tight, but in general this is a very welcoming place. Across the street is a sports bar/restaurant that attracts golfers and is well-priced, so if you don't want to drive at night, you can walk there to eat. It's fairly close to the main part of town, although Carmel sidewalks are a bit rough so if there are mobility problems you may want to drive and park closer to Ocean to shop.

We first stayed here on a Travel Zoo deal and it was a good value. Later we found it pretty pricey, well over $225/night counting the pet fee. We felt it was not worth it at that price and went elsewhere.

We loved the atmosphere of Carmel, and that was also due to our stay at this B&B. Our room was located right at the patio, a great place to have breakfast in the morning or enjoy the afternoon sun. The room was simply great; nicely decorated with cute details and a fireplace. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom. The VCR and the movie classics made the experience complete. Not to mention the complete breakfast offered every morning.
