I brought a group of couples for a little getaway. We got a good price, clean room, and great service from Joe! We enjoyed the continental breakfast, the waffle machine worked great. I saw the bad reviews but this was our experience. Perhaps they've been correcting their previous mistakes. The manager always gave us a nice greeting whenever we passed by.

The hotel was a distance from the heart of the town. There was a free shuttle but you are subject to its availability. The rooms are large but a little shabby. The balcony fit one table and one person. Every time a door slams any where in the building you hear it . The breakfast is equal to any other continental breakfast offered at any other hotel. The service is pretty minimal. Not a particular warm welcome. It was average.

Previous review "Busanio" is misleading.

Capitola Inn is located off California State Highway Route 1, exit the Bay Avenue / Porter Street exit, proceed west one block, then turn left at Hill St. or into Crossroads loop, property is located on the hill.

Capitola Inn is NOT only a minute on foot from Capitola State Beach and Capitola Village and nowhere near Shadowbrooks Restaurant; by vehicle, it's more of a five-minute drive with exceptional directions!!!

The Inn sits in a quiet location, no bars, no eating establishments close by, except Dairy Queen and a Sushi Bar, which was closed, but Nob Hill is within walking distance and offers a vast selection of food and beverage.

That said, Capitola Inn is basic, quiet, and comfortable. The management was warm and accomodating. The bed was comfortable, towels and linens were adequate. The continental breakfast was (as previously mentioned) high in carbs: Waffles, bagels, bread, cereal...milk selection was whole or lowfat. Fruit was apples and oranges.

This hotel is not inexpensive but has a great location in Capitola Village, only a minute on foot from Capitola Beach. The rooms are smallish but very comfortable and the beds are great. Decor is plush and colorful and the noise level isn't too bad, even in spite of all the bars that party late into the night just across the street. Lots of options for eating and drinking in this, the best part of Capitola, but parking is a drag on weekends. The hotel gives you a parking voucher to place on your dash, IF you can find a place to park. Best to park when you can and not move your car until you absolutely need to.

Very much walking distance to great places in Capitola. Go up the hill to Gayle's Bakery, a local institution serving not only baked goods but great dinners, pastas, salads, sandwiches. Gayle's has an outdoor seating area that's now enclosed so you don't have to suffer on those cold, foggy days. Another bonus is the proximity to Shadowbrook, a quirky but fun restaurant that has its own funicular railway car that takes guests up and down the hill.

Beginning surfers often congregate to the beach left of the the Village restaurant row.

Room Tip: Review the website room descriptions carefully and choose a room that suits you best. Some are a bit tiny and some look over the bars, so can be noisy.

For $200 for one night, we expected a bit more quality. The outside was alright. When we drove up to our room, which was at the back, I looked upstairs to a second-floor room and said to my husband, "Look, the curtains are falling down in that room. Hope that's not ours." It was. The carpet was thread-bare in spots, the toilet seat moved at least 2" to the left and right, making it precarious to use (which also made me wonder why the cleaning crew hadn't noticed this). Paint was peeling off of the upstairs porches. (Granted, there is a lot of coastal fog, but it had been some time since it had been painted, and the exposed wood was looking like it was starting to rot.) The two guys we met (one at night, one in the morning) at the front desk were less than enthusiastic to be there but did their job. (No pleasantries, just business.) Had we been in a city like Sacramento, we would have expected this room to be no more than $80. On the upside, they did allow us to stay just one night on a weekend, while several other hotels required a two-night stay. The continental breakfast was decent, with a hot waffle iron available to make waffles. It was mostly a carb breakfast (rolls, bagels, waffles), but my husband loved their coffee machine which ground the beans as you pressed the button for what coffee you wanted (espresso, etc.) If we venture back into that area, we will try someplace different.

Room Tip: Our room in building 4 backed up to the freeway, which provided noise throughout the night.
