“Came back to Cambria Pines Lodge after 20 years”
Reviewed 23 July 2012

Took a small group to Hearst Castle, and decided to stay here for two nights. Rate charged not that cheap, but cheaper than best Western and others. Rooms quite mediocre...Old furniture (painted white) no air conditioning (if you want cool weather, open the window (if you can)Beds are good (comfortable) Old TV (needs new one)Place was very clean. Amazed at how large this resort has become. Hot complementary breakfast (excellent) Restaurant is very large (did not try it, but menu looked good)(prices average)Good car parking. Front desk was good. Entertainment available several nights a week. Lots of variations in price on rooms. About 10 miles from Hearst Castle. Beach areas, nearby, also wineries.

Room Tip: Rooms depend on your choice of payment.

We look forward to our annual/semi-annual stay at the Lodge. We have never been disappointed and have never considered staying anywhere else. The staff is always cheerful and helpful and, if necessary, accomodating.
The grounds are a wonderful place to wander at any time of the day. We enjoy the food in the restaurant and again the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The property is "rustic" but well maintained. It's location is close to just about everything.

Booked this 2 nights deal at TravelZoo for boyfriend and I. At check-in, their computers were down, but instead of making us wait, they checked us in by hand. Our room ended up double-booked, but they had everything fixed by the time we returned from dinner in the nearby town. Staffs was very courteous throughout the stay, the breakfast was awesome. Our deal came with a dinner special for 2, it was delicious, very professional and tasty. Also, a bottle of complimentary house wine, which sent us back to purchase one to bring back with us to Los Angeles.

We booked a large suite (room 823 to be exact) It was very comfortable, the bed was nicely made, it was clean, the fireplace worked perfect. It sure kept us warm throughout the chilly nights. The toilet was horrible though, it kept getting stopped up where I finally called and asked for a plunger to be left in the suite with us. All that because the hotel is using water saving toilets, totally understandable.

The down side is the room gets bright when the sun comes up, it did not offer black-out blinds. Which is a total minus for me because it literally wakes me up. I'm a total light sleeper.

Overall, the area was peaceful and relaxing. We had a wonderful time at the Cambria Pines Lodge! Definitely recommend it. Did I mention the friendly cat whom sleeps his day away on the corner chair in the lobby?

Got a Travelzoo special for 2 nights that included wine tasting tickets, free breakfast, 1 dinner at the lodge's restaurant, and a buy 1-get 1 at 50% off coupon for Lynn's. I was pleasantly surprised to find out beautiful the grounds were. We were given a room in a newer building, which resembled single-story duplexes scattered toward the back of the sprawling property. The room was clean and had a mini fridge and small microwave, which were perfect. Bathroom had separate tub and shower. The only drawback was no A/C; there is ceiling fan and fireplace. The carpet had a few visible stains and would probably need either a deep cleaning or replacement very soon.

They allow pets, which was great! Despite their pet policy, the property was very clean and quiet.

The breakfast was interesting on the 1st day but you'll quickly get bored of the exact same items every day. There's a lounge area and 3 small dining rooms with beautiful views of the garden.

There is a steep stairway to the village but I would imagine it's very steep and strenuous.

Overall, I would definitely return.

We had a great time at the Cambria Pines Lodge. The room was very open and had plenty of room for us. We had an excellent dinner, staff was very attentive. We had a beautiful view of the gardens. It was also close to downtown Cambria, Hearst Castle and Morro Rock. We are planning to go back soon for more nights we enjoyed the Lodge. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful remommending places to see.
