“Great Location and Comfortable”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

Located across the street from Moonstone Beach, this hotel was a nice one night stop for us. The room was about average. The shower head broken but manageable. We were traveling with our dog and the hotel was very tolerant. The staff was courteous and helpful. We used the hot tub which was clean and also nice and hot. We think my husband may have gotten sick from the breakfast buffet (possibly the sausages or eggs), not sure. Overall, it was an acceptable experience for a $200 room right on the beach other than the possible food poisoning. The townspeople in Cambria were down to earth and kind. Really quaint little town.

We are glad that you enjoyed the location of our hotel and the small-town charm Cambria has to offer. We are sorry to hear that your husband was ill during your visit. We make it a priority to train our breakfast attendants on safe food handling practices and health department requirements. Please contact me personally if you would like to discuss this situation further. Our aim is to ensure you have a pleasurable stay at our hotel.

Ok, so you don't have the bragging rights you would have staying at one of the more pretentious hotels along Moonstone Beach, but in reality, all of the hotels in this area seemed quite similar. For only $215.00 per night we had a patio room overlooking the nature preserve and a beautiful ocean view. The room (313) was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and had a fireplace that came in handy during the stormy night. We especially enjoyed the jet tub after a long drive up Hwy 101. We also checked out the Cavalier, which is a few miles closer to the Hearst Castle, but liked the Cambria area more. The room was spotless and the staff was very professional. The only negative comment I can mention is a heavy chemical smell I noticed upon first entering our building. I would urge all hotels to go easy on using highly scented cleaning chemicals as many guests could have perfume allergies. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Fireside and will return.

We stayed here one night on April 5th, we got in late. We got off work and drove straight though to the coast. We arrived beat and sleepy to Moonstone Beach at about 11:00pm. We were check in promptly and offer an upgrade to a Ocean View room because it was so late. The room was nice, roomy and clean.

We have stayed at a handful of hotels on Moonstone and I think we have found our new favorite. We loved the big bathtub. Also the front desk clerk was great. He came through with a bottle of wine when we were too beat to go out and get one.

Great service, great view and great experience!!!

Room Tip: try to stay away from the breakfast room area (by the pool). Go for the ocean view if you can!

Over-priced for value received. No privacy. Big lighted sign ruined night ambiance and view. Checked out after one night and moved up to Cavalier Best Western in San Semion. Was more expensive but 1 million times better!! San Semion is a better beach destination than Moonstone for a getaway. Especially with a dog.

Our goal is to ensure you have a good night’s sleep and get the most value out of your stay. We apologize that the lights from the sign affected the evening ambiance and that you felt the view was not worth the money. We are using your comments to ensure that your next experience with us is more enjoyable.
