Owner description: Castello di Amorosa is one of Napa Valley's most unique wineries. At over 136,000 square feet, the authentically-built 13th-century Tuscan-style castle and winery offers a variety of tour options including Reserve wine tours, food and wine pairing tours and a cheese and wine tour. Castello di Amorosa makes a variety of award-winning wines from its location on the hillside above Calistoga. Try "Il Barone," the wine that Robert Parker rated 94 points. The Castello also produces Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Rose, Pinot Bianco, Sangiovese, Barbera, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Il Brigante blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, La Castellana Super Tuscan Blend, Il Raggio del Sole, Fantasia, Il Passito Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon and Late Harvest Gewurztraminer, the top dessert wine at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for two consecutive years.

Went when it first opened and thought $25 was steep for the tour and basic tasting, but it was totally worth it and I still highly recommend it to friends and people going to the Napa Valley. It's worth the $40 +/- ticket price now. If you can get the tour without the wine tasting, do that. This castle is like being transported to old Europe. There are Italian and Spanish and I think French elements in it. Many levels, including a dungeon with torture chamber (just for whimsey, but totally real equpment). Sattui spared no expense on this and you can feel its authenticity. You will love it and get great photos.

This was recommended by a few people online as well as others around Napa Valley. We took the tour with a tasting at the end. It was awesome! The thought that went into building the castle was incredible. They built it as if it had been built over a few decades as real castles were built and you can see the different building techniques in different areas. The caves underneath are literally cool. They seem to go on forever with barrels upon barrels of wine stored not just for them but for other wineries as well. Well worth the trip but get there early as the parking seems to fill up pretty quick. Also make a reservation for the tour as they fill up too.

Although this is a "new" castle, it is built to replicate those of old times. Interesting to tour and many photo ops. The wine experience was excellent with a friendly and educated staff.

You bet! This authentic Tuscan Castle was constructed using authentic medieval building techniques and includes bricks from Italy, Italian frescoes in the medieval dining hall, and a dungeon and torture chamber! Lots of fun on the tour with knowledgeable guide and wine expert. The castle is actually a modern winery with an amazing underground space for private wine tastings. The tastings were plentiful and the wine delicious. The tour includes a barrel tasting and lesson on proper tasting methods. You can only buy Castello di Amorosa wine at the Castle or by mail. It is not available at your local wine shop which makes the wines extra special. They also offer delicious estate bottled grape juice(non alcoholic) from the Reisling varietal. Intensly sweet, but would do well mixed with some sparking water. The tour and tastings last a good 2 hours, so plan accordingly.
