DISGUSTING - AVOID!!!!

AVOID THIS PLACE!
Review of our stay in room 63 on 8/7/2015.

1. The carpet and room reeked of urine. When I bent down towards it to pick something up, the smell was so bad, I almost passed out.
2. The heart-shaped spa tub was filthy. When I went to use it, I turned on the jets in the tub, an awful, putrid smell came out (like sulphur smelling).. along with this hundreds of brown particles. disgusting.
3. The couch was soiled and under the couch cushions, there was hair, dirt, dead bugs, and also coins.
4. The manager gave me a can of "odor repellant" to help alleviate the smell. That did not help.
5. Overall that room was so rank that I did not sleep all night - I actually considered sleeping in my van that night. We were given a discount but were still charged for the room.
6. The shower door was broken and we could not easily open/close the shower door.
7. Various appliances or fixtures needing repair.
8. Wallpaper peeling off the walls.

The hotel charged a premium rate of $229/night plus a $30 pet fee. However, it sure does not look like they are using those funds to sanitize the rooms, or shampoo the carpets, or keep up on repairs.

Room 62 was right next to us. Those people complained to us over their patio fence also about how rank their room was.

After much respectful conversation, the manager did allow us to leave with paying only $100 and to cancel the other two nights we had planned. I'm not sure who the owner of the property is but they need to do a better job investing in maintenance and helping empower their team in a positive way. I had a feeling that the manager's hands were tied.

The free breakfast was decent and because we got their early it was ample and very clean. But they have a rule that you cannot take the items to your room (which I personally think is dumb) They offer Wi-Fi but the signal was so weak we could not connect. I recognize that the wi-fi is not the hotel's fault though.

AVOID!

Instead go visit the wonderful people at Bay Hill Mansion. They were full when we tried to move to them but they were sweet, helpful and kind & pet friendly. bayhillmansion.com

Room Tip: Just don't stay here. If you do, know that room 63 is by highway - very loud.

We paid $300 for one night in an ocean view, king sized bed, suite with a spa in the room. We were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary in Bodega Bay. When we checked in and got to our room, it looked and smelled a little long in the tooth (torn and stapled wall coverings, noisy ceiling appliances, and that "older room air freshner" smell). To be fair, let's go through what was advertised versus our actual experience:

Ocean View: Well, a Bodega Bay view. As our roon was situated on the ground floor, about 15' in front of our outdoor patio was the hotel parking loop and an access road, with traffic running until well past 10 p.m. So we moved indoors to get some quiet.

Additionally, within about 30' or so of our room was the Inn's communal hot tub. Noisy, loud and drunken guests acting obnoxious until after 11 p.m... Very romantic.

The room as a very nice heart-shaped hot tub ensuite, but there is not enough hot water available (and a VERY weak water stream) to fill the tub above the jets. We decided to continue to fill the water level above the jets and were rewarded with a cool-to-luke-warm tub. When we turned on the spa jets, this horrible sulphur reeking smell emanated from the spa unit, flooding the room with this lovely rotten egg smell at 11 p.m. As we have a very good friend who had a similar experience in
Cabo San Lucas last year and almost lost his left leg to MERSA, we immediately vacated the tub, drained it and jumped into the hot shower to clean off. When we advised the desk person about this the following morning, her only comment was, "Well, the fire department checks those spas, so maybe they did something to it." Say what?

Bed was king-sized as advertised, but had an old and thin mattress that was marginally comfortable.

However, the Inn provided a nice in wall unit fireplace with two Duraflame logs, and that worked exactly as advertised.

Save you rmoney and look for another placed to stay when in Bodega Bay, or better yet (as we found out after-the-fact), you can stay at an awesome bed-and-breakfast about 15 miles inland in the small town of Occidental which is called "The Inn at Occidental," which would be a much better deal for about the same money!!

Room tip: Try and find an upstairs room with an ocean front view, but look before you buy!!

Bodega Coast Inn, Bodega Bay, Ca,
This experience is a mixed bag. Has a great location. However, I expect a little more attention to detail for $179 a night. It would not take much effort as one will see from my comments.
Room 15 in the Cormorant building. This is an ADA room. Not sure why we got this room other than we asked for a ground level. The room has a lift chair which is a nice touch. However, it is not plugged in and there is no easy access to a plug. A power strip would be a simple thing to install. The room also has a sofa. Nice touch. It is very heavy so I am guessing that it is a sofa bed. We are here for one night on a drive along Hwy 1. I don't know if every room has a view. This room has a little veranda with sliding door and view of the bay. Nice sunset...
Breakfast is included in a room adjacent to the lobby. I had hoped that the breakfast would be a highlight but it was minimal. Mainly high carb products, juices, coffee, hard boiled eggs.

Room – 15
Internet – free, wi fi only. No ethernet.
Air conditioning – no
Electrical outlets – somewhat oddly placed and used by extra lamps. Pull the lamp plug to charge devices. Same for my cpap. Had to work to get to an outlet behind the head of the bed. Fortunately the cord is long enough.
Smoking – No
Alarm clock – digital
Safe for valuables – no
Ironing board with iron – Yes
Hair dryer - yes
Closet – good size closet with sliding doors and mirror on front.
Towels, linens – Fine
Tissues (kleenex or equal) - Yes
Facecloths - yes
California King bed and pillows- four pillows, no extras. These Ca king beds are about four inches narrower and a little longer than a standard king bed; feels more like a queen bed to me. Not good: while in bed, the mattress seems to be low in the center and one's body is naturally inclined to roll toward the center. This is usually indicative of wear and tear and time for replacement.
Bedside nightstands – one drawer and open space below. Free standing lamp on each nightstand. Hotels should really think about supplying lamps that have electrical outlets.
Robes – no
Coffee maker – Mr Coffee 4 cup coffeemaker with one packet each of regular and decaf coffee. Usual items to mix with coffee. No tea.
Mini fridge – yes, excellent Magic Chef
Microwave – yes, Magic chef
Television – looks like approx 32” LG flat screen. Located on top of a 3 drawer chest which is plenty adequate for clothing.
DVD player – no. Website advertises dvd player. Perhaps it has to be picked up in the lobby and installed.
Shower – not good. 1) the ADA shower has a wall mounted seat that will not stay up when not in use so one has to deal with the seat being partially in the way. 2) the shower head is old and should be replaced. 2) The volume of water is limited either by low water pressure or a restrictive orifice. 3) the worse thing is the slow drain. One ends up standing in a puddle of dirty water.
Bathroom amenities – Green shampoo and skin lotion. Not familiar with this product.
Amenity kit – no kit; No shower cap, cotton balls, swabs or anything else
Weight scale – no
External Sounds – acceptable levels
Pool / hot tub – don't know; website does not mention and I did not ask.

Great view of Bodega Bay and a stone's throw from Doran Beach Road. Staff was efficient, friendly, and courteous. Breakfast offerings were plentiful and above average. No swimming pool but a nice spa - perfect after hiking.

We arrived in Bodega Bay without anywhere stay and found this place courtesy of the Tourist Information office on Highway CA-1. Location is right on the bay with lovely views from the room. The place needs a bit of sprucing up, but the rooms are large with verandas/patios overlooking the bay. For what is essentially a motel, the rooms are very large and comfortable, if a little dated.
Staff are very friendly and helpful and breakfast is more than passable. It's not a luxury hotel (try the Tides up the road at $100 extra per night for that) but it was great for a one-night stay on our road trip.

We were on an impromptu romantic getaway with the destination chosen 36 hours prior to departure. I had done minor investigation into lodging but hadn't written anything down. Big mistake.

B the time we got to town and decided to look for lodging I had forgotten the reviews I'd read. Bodega Coast Inn looks decent from the outside and the cute whimsical hedges delighted me. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly. All the rooms are spacious have private balconies, and face the water. Sounds great, right?

The door to our room stuck and extra force to open. This is a bit of a hassle when your carrying your bags in but we thought "Damp coastal air, the wood warps. No big deal". Entering, the room smelled moldy. Again we wrote it off to damp climate. We dropped our bags and headed to the balcony to check out our view. The patio furniture, cheap plastic bottom of the barrel stuff, was the faded and dirty. "Eh, it's outside " we said, intent upon enjoying ourselves.

Inside we discovered over the course of stay, a hard well used squeaky bed, very small (though jetted) tub, what looked like a bullet hole in our vaulted ceiling, an extremely slow response TV, freezer in desperate need of defrosting, peeling wallpaper, and the two things that really turned me off and made me want to vomit, an absolutely filthy carpet and other people's hair on the towels.

The carpets were so dirty that my boyfriends feet were black from walking around the room barefoot. The hair on the towels thing is maybe just my problem but imagine drying your face with a towel having some strangers long strains of hair drag across it. I literally screamed an threw the towel on the floor. Same thing happened with a bath towel and since they only give you 2, I had to retrieve my boyfriend's wet towel to dry off after my shower.

The place wasn't all bad and creepy, the staff were very nice and friendly, the view is pretty, rooms are spacious, breakfast was more than adequate for us since we aren't breakfast people. The hotel didn't ruin our trip but we won't stay there next time we visit the area.
