We paid $300 for one night in an ocean view, king sized bed, suite with a spa in the room. We were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary in Bodega Bay. When we checked in and got to our room, it looked and smelled a little long in the tooth (torn and stapled wall coverings, noisy ceiling appliances, and that "older room air freshner" smell). To be fair, let's go through what was advertised versus our actual experience:
Ocean View: Well, a Bodega Bay view. As our roon was situated on the ground floor, about 15' in front of our outdoor patio was the hotel parking loop and an access road, with traffic running until well past 10 p.m. So we moved indoors to get some quiet.
Additionally, within about 30' or so of our room was the Inn's communal hot tub. Noisy, loud and drunken guests acting obnoxious until after 11 p.m... Very romantic.
The room as a very nice heart-shaped hot tub ensuite, but there is not enough hot water available (and a VERY weak water stream) to fill the tub above the jets. We decided to continue to fill the water level above the jets and were rewarded with a cool-to-luke-warm tub. When we turned on the spa jets, this horrible sulphur reeking smell emanated from the spa unit, flooding the room with this lovely rotten egg smell at 11 p.m. As we have a very good friend who had a similar experience in
Cabo San Lucas last year and almost lost his left leg to MERSA, we immediately vacated the tub, drained it and jumped into the hot shower to clean off. When we advised the desk person about this the following morning, her only comment was, "Well, the fire department checks those spas, so maybe they did something to it." Say what?
Bed was king-sized as advertised, but had an old and thin mattress that was marginally comfortable.
However, the Inn provided a nice in wall unit fireplace with two Duraflame logs, and that worked exactly as advertised.
Save you rmoney and look for another placed to stay when in Bodega Bay, or better yet (as we found out after-the-fact), you can stay at an awesome bed-and-breakfast about 15 miles inland in the small town of Occidental which is called "The Inn at Occidental," which would be a much better deal for about the same money!!
