We sure didn't expect to find a place like this in Bishop. Walking distance from our hotel. They open at 5pm. We were seated immediately. The place was full by the time we finished our meal. Great selection of food. The calamari steak and salmon was great. Very tender. Service was attentive, but not annoying. Sake was warm and delicious. Good for families that enjoy sushi or Japanese food.

You may wonder about sushi in Bishop...but Yamatani is always a great meal. I suggest the oyster shooter and sitting with Robbie at the sushi bar.

There were mixed reviews, but we tried the restaurant around 5:30, and found the waitstaff friendly and helpful. Food arrived quickly and was tasty

On our way to Lake Tahoe we stayed overnight in Bishop CA.
We thought we would grab a sandwhich at Schat's but instead walked a little further and stumbled upon Yamatani.
The owner greeted us. The servers and wait staff where delightful and the food was served promptly and with great care.
First came the tea - then some Edanomi with course salt and great soup and veggie tempura and rolls. Too full to have desert, we had to walk it off.

It is hard to save room for dessert. Had the 'boat' of sushi which was very good. My wife had the beef terriyaki which was also very good. But the desserys were the greatest. Try the fried cheesecake. Sounds weird but tastes great! The lava cake is also very good. Service was very good here for a change. Other restaurants should check them out to see how it is done. I must admit the scenery is standard american, but in my opinion it's the food and service that count. And that speaks for itself
