Old facility could be charming, and the breakfast was quite nice. Bed ok, rooms clean. But there are some oddities that merit mentioning. Considerable effort (and expense) in decorating in a faux Italian style - rather than making things work a bit better. Central heat and air, with no control in the rooms - we were there in August so the AC was on. Really cold in our room! Our room downstairs faced a wall and was dark and musty. Pool was reserved all day on a Saturday for a private event. Location a couple miles from the Village (downtown).

Room Tip: If you are there with a dog, ask for rooms 16, 17 or 18. They face the pool and have a bit more lig...

Too much of a focus on fake-luxury, like fancy wallpaper and tables and towel heaters- when the whole place smells musty and there's no individual climate control...

I agree with the other reviews, that this is a pretty weird version of a BW plus- most of them seem modern but this one seems quite old, however apparently all the gaudy chandeliers pushed it up to a higher rating bracket

realistically, almost nothing in Big Bear is new at this point, and I certainly didn't see one hotel that looked even as nice as this one, the whole time I was there

I got a room for about 100 bucks a night, however others staying at the same time were paying 2 or 3 times that amount, due to a special-event sellout, those prices are not worth it in my mind

Room Tip: watch out because some rooms are basically in the basement

My grandson & I arrived on July 18th., 3 hours before check-in, after a 4 hr. drive. Sherri was kind enough to offer us an early check-in with a smile on her face saying, "your room is ready!" What a delightfully clean, pleasantly decorated room & hotel with the friendliest staff you'll ever meet. Penny, the manager was helpful with recommendations for our recreational choices as Sherri & Laurie were with restaurants in the area. The inclusive breakfast was so far above the normal free fare, cooking omelets to order for you, if desired. I would recommend this hotel to others without hesitation, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will return again on our next visit to Big Bear Lake. I have a bad back and the bed was very comfortable and Laurie even made room to freeze an icepack for me in their freezer to help. This property is a gem offering hot coffee & tea in the lobby all day long. BTW-Coffee is exscellent @ breakfast, too, not the watered down dark water so many offer.

This venue is overall very nice; however, there were a few things lacking--we had to ask for a coffee pot in the room (the 2nd time we've not had one at a BW Plus location), and there was no microwave or refrigerator (which we've always had at a BW Plus). The room was nicely decorated, but a little on the small side and there was no closet--just a small armoire. Although there is an elevator to the second floor, you have to walk up/down eight stairs to get to some of the 2nd floor rooms. The only window looked out on an internal light well (in other words, if you want a view, you'd better ask for it). And despite one other review, not ALL rooms have a balcony; this one did not have any outside access. Although you can turn on the fan in the room, you cannot regulate the temperature. That may save THEM money; however, not all of us are comfortable at the same room temperature. Breakfast was nicer than some, not as good as other BW Plus facilities. It is a good location (off the main road and out of the tourist traffic area) that is quieter than other places in town, but not as convenient for walking around. A mixed bag overall, but affordable.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for exterior window/balcony if you want it, and if walking up and down with luggage i...
