“Not too bad!”
Reviewed 21 July 2011

I was hesitant to book here because of the very low rate, but I really just needed a place to crash (we were ziplining the next day) and this was one of the few places that allows you to book for 1 night. Apparently this place was just taken over by the Wyndham/Ramada/Knights Inn etc franchise and had just re-opened not too long ago and is in the process of remodeling. The room we got had new paint and new carpet, though furniture, mattresses was old and bathroom was dated with no tub, just a shower. Other than an odd "pet" smell and lack of counter space in the bathroom, the room was clean comfortable, bigger than expected, good water pressure, lots of hot water, plenty of towels. The manager was very nice in pointing out tips on where to go and giving us discount coupons, and EVERYTHING was in walking distance (the Village, bowling alley across the street, amusement center less than a block away). There is also an indoor pool/spa that was not in operation, but after the remodel I'm sure it will be. Breakfast of pre-packaged danishes, coffee and Capri-Suns were provided in the morning - meager, but honestly for the price i wasnt expecting anything at all. There are lots of cute places i'd like to stay the next go around, but I wouldnt mind staying here again.

I stayed here for a night with my girlfriend and our dog for a ski weekend in March 2011.

The man who runs to hotel is extremely nice and very willing to help with any information you need to help you enjoy your stay in Big Bear Lake.

Pros: Very close to The Village. Discount coupons for the bowling and other activities within walking distance. Very friendly staff. Indoor pool should be running again soon. Free wifi. Pet friendly. Affordable.

Cons: Very dated, circa 1975.

I hope to check up on this place by next season and see that they have made improvements to get the place up-to-date because I would love to stay here again, if some "modern" changes are made and the pool is working, etc. From what the owner told me, I expect that will be the case, and this may be a secret gem of Big Bear at some point. Until then, be happy with the price and curb your expectations a bit and you will be happy here.
