Built in 1953, this is your true mid-century hotel. it looks and feels mid century, unfortunately not by design, Those days with wall to wall movie stars, celebrities and dignitaries including past presidents were long gone. This hotel is destined to be rebuilt as part of the future 1 Beverly Hills complex including the land next door. Most of the structures likely will come down as they are certainly not meeting today's seismic standards, especially the tight parking garage which will probably go underground in the new complex. My understanding is that the iconic core tri-star structure may be retained.
Location of the hotel could not be any more convenient as it is slightly more than a half mile from Rodeo Drive on one end and the upscale Westfield Mall on the other both within easy walking distance.
Parking is $50 either valet or self park ( multiple entries.) A bit expensive but this is Beverly Hills after all. Besides, the money spent should be covered by savings on your parking at Rodeo or Westfield.
The hotel's granite/marble lobby is virtually empty. It has a bizarre hollow appearance with far too few furnishings. You can almost hear echoes in the large space.
I stayed in a large second floor one bedroom suite and it has the same cold, under furnished feel with depressing pastel green colors. The decorator needs to be replaced as a little bright colors would do absolute...Built in 1953, this is your true mid-century hotel. it looks and feels mid century, unfortunately not by design, Those days with wall to wall movie stars, celebrities and dignitaries including past presidents were long gone. I stayed in a large second floor one bedroom suite and it has the same cold, under furnished feel with depressing pastel green colors. The decorator needs to be replaced as a little bright colors would do absolute wonders. The furniture are decent but clearly not Beverly Hills quality. It is obvious Hilton is merely keeping this facility open until construction of the new complex starts. The pandemic almost certainly delayed the entire project as it created major uncertainties into the future of the lodging industry.
That said, the bathroom in my suite is large with frosted glass enclosed shower and toilet and a good size soaking tub. Water is hot and strong instead of the conservation shower heads at newer facilities.
Bed is comfortable with supportive pillows and soft double flat sheets. Temperature setting is easy and there are dual control for the bedroom and living room. There is a decent size non-walk-in closet and an old dresser with half wasted space built for an old style box television set. A pair of bath robes are provided but not sure about the case in a standard room. No slippers. There is a small refrigerator in the dinning room.
On the surface, this sounds like a bad place to stay. Here are the facts. $300-$400 a night for a standard room doesn't sound like a bargain. But at the heart of BH, it is an absolute steal, especially when you consider there is no notorious "resort fee." This also remains one of few hotels that still has daily room cleaning service. Not crucial but it sets the Beverly Hilton one step above the standard Hilton Hotels. Staffs are friendly and very helpful. On one occasion, I needed directions and one lady actually walked me all the way through all the shortcuts and saved me at least 10 minutes of walking distance. Poolside restaurant provided excellent breakfast and service albeit a bit pricey - again this is Beverly Hills. The pool is fine but the surrounding is old. Everything has been kept up but little improved on.
My one complaint. There is no coffee maker in the room. Free coffee is served at the lobby only from 4:30am to 6:00 am. After that, the poolside restaurant opens and they will gladly take your $5 for a cup to go. The front desk did offer to deliver a coffee maker to the room.More
